Looks good, Crewe.
That would be the one, Tagg. :P
The thought process was "Wait, I don't think you can go straight from prairies to desert, isn't there stuff that goes in between?" So I added some. xD
Double posting.
Here are some worldbuilding notes I wrote up:
SUNGUARD was founded by the Tieflings. It mines Sun Stones and exports them to major cities such as Oasis and Crossways.
OASIS is the main hub for the farmers, herders, and hunters that live out on the prairie. It is a thriving trade city, and its market is known all throughout the continent.
NIGHT FORK is the main city of the Elves, and the closest one to the edge of the Shadow Woods.
MIDDLE PASS is a city primarily to provide for travelers. Everyone who goes through the Dark Pass has to go through Middle Pass. It's also the easiest and safest way up to Highpeak.
HIGHPEAK was originally a Dragonborn city. It serves mainly as a place for traders going between Blackhall and Middle Pass to stop, but also serves as the main place to stop for travelers in the mountain. It is located at the base of the Highstone Ring.
BLACKHALL is a city built into the mountain. It forges weapons, armor, and items for Pokemon out of raw materials either traded for or mined from the mountain itself.
DAWNWATCH is an odd city. Half of it is underwater, where it serves as a capital of sorts for the mermaids. The rest is on the shore, and often serves as a resort town.
SILVER FALLS is another mining city. They mine various precious stones and metals, but are known especially for their silver mine. The city is centered around a large waterfall, and the road crosses both above and below.
CROSSWAYS was founded by humans, but now pretty much every race imaginable can be found there. Founded to provide a place for travelers headed through the Morning Plains to rest, it grew into a major trading hub, hosting a market to rival Oasis's. There is a major school of magic here.
SHADOWGATE primarily serves as a place for adventurers looking to go into Shadow Woods to supply and rest. It also has a well-known school for herbalists and the like.
The MORNING PLAINS are basically what it says: wide open, fertile plains. There are a few small towns and nomadic tribes and the like scattered throughout. Though they are generally not considered dangerous for travelers, there are many wild Pokemon about and it is safest to travel by the main roads.
WATERTREE BOG is a, well, bog. Not many people live here, simply because it's a swamp and generally uncomfortable. Naturally, there are some people and Pokemon here, but it is generally sparsely populated.
The SHADOW WOODS is an incredibly thick, rather menacing mostly coniferous forest. There are several elven communities within the woods, but most don't have much contact with the outside world. The Shadow Woods have earned a reputation for being very dangerous to people unused to it, so it's somewhat rare for people to travel within without reason.
The TWILIGHT PRAIRIE is home to many nomadic tribes of hunters and gatherers, as well as many small farming communities that all come together to trade at Oasis. There are large herds of both wild and domesticated Pokemon that wander the prairie. The prairie has an odd dusky tinge to it when viewed from afar, which is where it gets its name.
The GE'AHD DESERT is a large northern desert. The prairie grass gradually change to scrubland, and eventually into true desert. It is not so much dune lands as mostly red rocks with little vegetation. Sun Stones are mined here.
The SKYREACH MOUNTAIN RANGE is, well, a mountain range. The northern half of the range is sparsely populated, but the southern half has several cities.
HIGHSTONE RING is a circle of the highest peaks in the mountain range. A good portion of them are constantly covered in snow, and climbing them is considered a huge challenge.
The DAWN HILLS are a series of low, rolling hills, going from the base of the Skyreach Mountains to the Sun Woods. They are fairly rocky and infertile, so not many live there, but they are also not heavily populated by Pokemon, so they are fairly safe to travel through.
The SUN WOODS is a bright, sunny deciduous forest surrounding Lake Scale.
LAKE SCALE is the home of many mermaids. It is a gigantic lake, taking several days to completely circle around. It is a very popular destination for people looking to take vacations.
FOG RIVER is a small branch off of Traveler's River, ending in a lake in the middle of Watertree Bog.
FIN RIVER is the river emanating from Lake Scale. It passes through Silver Falls, where it turns into a waterfall. It is a very wide and deep river, but not particularly treacherous outside of the mountains.
TAIL RIVER is a branch off of Fin River. It is much narrower and faster-moving than its source river, and difficult to ford, especially in the mountains.
TRAVELER'S RIVER goes from north of Oasis down through the Shadow Woods and Watertree Bog. It is so named because as there is no road to follow past Night Fork, travelers in the Shadow Woods have to follow the river to get out. Because of this, several small inns have sprung up along its banks.
NIGHT RIVER is a branch off of Traveler's River, headed deeper into the Shadow Woods.
Ooh, looks good.
So, if we have our world to play around in now, I suppose we should work on a sign up?
I'd say so. I still need to think of a character, though...
For what we need on it... I'd say...
Name, Race, Area of Origin, Age, Gender, Description, Personality, maybe something like skills, History, and naturally Pokemon.
As for Pokemon, name, species, gender, and personality?
Anything I missed?
Abilities, for Pokemon.
Other than that looks good.
um, I am a strict observer here, but can I get some context on uphill/downhill on that map? Which way do the rivers flow? :P
Top is north and bottom is south, so I did try to make sure they went from north to south.
Lake Scale is at a higher elevation than Silver Falls, which is at a lower point in the mountain range. None of the rivers flow uphill. : P
Can't wait for this to start. Did we decide what the Ghost type associated race was?
Vampires.
Aside from mons, I don't think I've ever played a nonhuman character in anything...
Anything else y'all can think of that we might need?
For Signup, or...
(Though I think we should get an initial plot worked out, even if I would appreciate this being slower-paced.)
Oh, yes, that's a good idea.
Hm... what about, say, the last few adventurers to go up to Highstone Ring have been disappearing, and the last one included a fairly high-ranking guard from Crossways, so the mayor/king/whatever there is starting to get suspicious, so he's hiring some adventurers to go investigating.
So maybe some of the more altruistic characters volunteer to go, and some of the less ones get hired, so they go off to find out what's up.
And maybe there's some, I dunno, crazy necromancer guy setting up shop up there and kidnapping adventurers to do weird necromancy-y experiments.
That works for a starting plot. Any other suggestions?
Well, they can all meet in a ba -shot-
Seriously though, 2 Questions:
Is someone going to play the necromancer
and How are these character's supposed to meet?
So, where should the potion shop/fortune telling place run by the two witch characters I had in mind be located?
DS: Your best bet would probably be Crossways or Middle Pass.
Also, DS, since most of the characters are probably gonna be adventurers, you might want to make another character that can travel with the party, unless you don't mind only interacting with them when they're in one area. Your store keeper characters are funny, but they're not particularly mobile, unless I'm misunderstanding.
Well, I imagine at least the younger twin might often head out to search for ingredients for making potions and stuff. As for the older one, I'm not entirely sure about her.
All right, if you think it'll work out, fine. I just thought I should point it out so you wouldn't feel left out.
Doublepost for Jho.
1. We can work out who plays the necromancer when we get that far.
2. We can work that out when we have characters, because it can go different ways depending on the types of characters people come up with.
Any other questions/concerns/comments, or do y'all think we're ready to go?
I say get the signup fleshed out, then we can get rolling.
