Re: Holon Arc!

Mirage Forest sounds interesting. I think it's got a lot of potential (just look how huge it is). If it's called "Mirage Forest", it has to be called that for a reason. Perhaps it is where radiation is strong because of its large size? The heart of the forest could perhaps be where Deltas are found in larger quantities because of its isolation from humans.

As for Deltafication, my theory is all mons can be Deltafied, but younger, older, and weaker mons would be more likely to change. Eggs brought into the region would be at a particularly strong risk, and hatching one inside of Holon could potentially either cause immediate Deltafication, or illness if one is not careful. Stronger mons would take longer to Deltafy, though I'd assume it would still be possible.

Re: Holon Arc!

Okay, copying this from Discussion

Basic Notes

There will be no catching Pokemon during this arc, for in-universe reasons explained later on. If you want a Delta on your team, you'll have to:

* Get it cleared with everyone else. I had to with Igneous, so everyone else who would want one needs to go through the same process no matter who they are.
* Have a good in-universe reason for why the Delta wants to follow you around away from Holon. This is the much easier part of the process.

Additionally, all Pokemon you wish to participate in the arc with must be in your team at the beginning. Same in-verse reasons as above.

Geography

We're using this map:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2llehhh.png

As for details...

Location

Holon is located north of Kanto, with Joulant Town connected to Cerulean Cape. That happens to be the only reliable way of reaching the region, since there are no ports.

Delta Islands

This set of 17 small islands, each of which could have its own name, for those who want to contribute, protrudes from west of Joulant Town. Each one is prominently inhabited by Deltas of a specific type, but you're free to have the secondary type of any mon be whatever you want. The islands are arranged like this:

Unnamed Island

The island to the far west of the map has several different species, but the most notable is the massive amount of Delta!Golett and Golurk. Essentially, it's Umbra's Bionicle Shout Out island.

Distant Island Chain

These are incredibly far away, beyond the horizon. On an island in the exact center of the island chain, there's a strange circle of crystals around a crater. Near-identical crystals have been found on the main landmass.

Mirage Forest

This massive forest covers almost half of the region, even completely surrounding Holon City. Rumors are, a Mew appears here, but nobody knows for sure. Except for the J-Team, who will no doubt meet it at some point.

Holon Ruins

These ruins may seem trivially small from a bird's-eye view, but in fact extend deep into the Mirage Forest, and even underground. They used to be a city for a large civilization... one which existed around 600 years ago, in fact.

Somewhere deep within the ruins, there is a path which, to Palkia's dismay, leads to one of the distant islands to the northeast.

Oh, and there might be magical artifacts. Such as armbands. Or any other items you can think of. You just have to search for them.

Mt. Ohmeg

This mountain has been dug through for years, in a search for those strange crystals. The search was called off when the crater from the Distant Island Chain was found, but the tunnels still exist. The tunnels link Cergus Town, the area near Lake Volata, the Mirage Forest, and the Calor Desert.

At the northernmost end, a spring runs water into Lake Volata, which flows through the Mirage Forest and down into Lake Holon, cutting Holon City in half.

Calor Desert

Not much is to be found here, but the trek through the desert is the only way to reach the unnamed island with the Delta!Golurk. Hope you brought plenty of water.

Warrior Clans

In the area between Lake Holon and the bulk of the Mirage Forest, four Clans of feline mons live. Being territorial, no doubt they give visitors hell just for attempting to get to Holon City. The four clans are:

WindClan

  • Led by a pure Flying-type Delta!Persian

  • Inhabit the open fields in the center

  • Mostly Flying- and Normal-types

RiverClan

  • Led by a pure Water-type Delta!Delcatty

  • Inhabit the edge of Lake Holon

  • Mostly Water- and Ice-types

ShadowClan

  • Led by a non-Delta!Liepard

  • Inhabit the area around the main path to Holon City

  • Mostly Dark- and Ghost-types. Poison-types are also fairly common.

ThunderClan

  • Led by a non-Delta!Luxray

  • Inhabit the  edge of the Mirage Forest

  • Very diverse type-wise, but a large number are Electric-types.

Clan mons, like most Deltas, tend to have stats that differ from normal mons.

WindClan

  • Generally high Speed stats

  • Weaker Defense and/or Special Defense stats

RiverClan

  • Higher Special stats

  • Lower Physical stats

ShadowClan

  • High offensive stats

  • Frail defenses and HP

ThunderClan

  • High Physical stats and HP

  • Low Special stats and Speed

Mythology-wise, they believe the Mirage Forest Mew was the original member of StarClan, which consists of cats who had ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence. Additionally, they hold the Legendary Beasts in high regard, although Suicune is significantly less respected than Raikou and Entei.

The full list of accepted mons:

  • Meowth line

  • Sneasel line

  • Skitty line

  • Zangoose

  • Absol

  • Shinx line

  • Glameow line

  • Purrloin line

Eeveelutions are not allowed, unfortunately; they're foxes, which, in the books, are not to be trusted. Sorry, Espeon lovers.

Clan Battles

Given the nature of a "clan", battles with them will mostly be in groups. Seeing as the arc coincides with Conquest, it would be a nice link between the two if the Clans had kept the battle style alive. Due to this, Clan mons will also have Conquest abilities rather than main-series abilities. While that's something we still need to figure out on that half of the arc, no doubt we'll have figured it out by the time the clans appear.

I'll personally be practicing writing Clan battles before they are needed in the first place, taking elements from both Conquest and the Warrior Cats books.

Magnetic Storms

Magnetic storms are near-constant in Holon. They screw with electronics, and all Pokeballs will malfunction fairly early on. All Pokemon will be forced out of their Pokeballs. This is why catching Pokemon during the course of the arc won't be possible.

Deltification

Turning a Pokemon into a Delta can happen one of three ways:

Hatching/Evolution
These are the points when the Pokemon's body rapidly changes; they are also quite vulnerable to external stimuli such as Delta radiation during these times.

Extended Exposure
We'll be leaving Holon before this can happen, but it can easily be implemented into backstory. Be warned, this is the most likely to cause ill effects.

Delta Crystals
With enough crystals and enough energy - energy which may well have to be provided by Mirage!Mew - one can instantly Deltify a Pokemon, or revert a Delta from such.

Delta!Legendaries

Delta legendaries are obviously an iffy subject, but there are a few which could be fairly reasonable.

Delta!Mew
Essentially, the Mew rumored to appear in Mirage Forest is a Mew with Multitype, minus the need for Plates. Instead, it Transforms into a Mew of any type it wishes. This is the only definite one.

Delta!Deoxys
It exists in the TCG. Perhaps whatever meteorite it came on might be the original source of the crystals Scientists had been studying?

Delta!Latii, Delta!Shaymin, and any other "plural" Legendaries you can think of
They'd be exclusive to the Distant Island Chain if they do appear at all.

Plot

To start, we need a reason to go in the first place. One possibility (and feel free to contribute your own):

One of the PCs finds out one of their ancestors was important in Holon, and go to the Holon Ruins to find out more
This provides a nice link to the concurrent Conquest arc. I may well have Ancestor!Alyssa be a Conquest!Holon native for this purpose if nobody else has ideas.

Then, GASP! Stuff happens, and we're stuck in Holon until we find a solution! Possibilities:

One or more J-Team mons have been Deltified, and are ''not'' happy about it.
It gives us a reason to explore the entire region, in an attempt to find a "cure".
Mon/Trainer Separation
Perhaps we got lost in the Mirage Forest. Perhaps someone kidnapped somemon. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. Point is, it's a nice way to implement that subarc plan. Only issue is, if it's the "getting lost" option, we're likely to stay in one place until we find each other again.

After Schroedinger's Number Of Trials, we finally solve our problems, and decide we've had enough of the place. And so, with new knowledge of the past, we return to Kanjoh, where we plan our next actions.

Re: Holon Arc!

Eskay, you wrote Delta Ruins twice. Otherwise it sounds good to me, shame I can't participate since I'll be on the Conquest side of things with Umbra. (Of course at the same time RP!Tagg's enough of a gamebreaker that it's probably better that way that he isn't involved on the Holon side of things, at least at first.)

Re: Holon Arc!

A small question. Would Delta typing transfer through breeding?

I was wondering how viable having a Normal-type Wooper in a small group of Dragon-type Wooper would be.

30

Re: Holon Arc!

In theory it should since it is an alteration of type down to at least cellular level, but I would venture that it'd only work safely for "natural" Deltas; as for artificial Deltas I guess we better ask someone more knowledgeable of TCG stuff. (We also have to balance it out so that it's not used as an excuse to get Deltas).

Thou hast forgotten the face of thy Lord. Remember, mortal, and fear pet me.

Re: Holon Arc!

Tagg: Fixed it. And perhaps one or more of your mons can get involved.

Zeal: It would transfer, yes, but it's restricted to the types of the parents; for example, a regular Houndoom breeding with a Dark/Water Houndoom would result in any combination of Dark, Fire, and Water-types. You wouldn't end up with a hypothetical Grass-type Houndour out of nowhere. So if, between those Woopers' parents, at least one was part Dragon-type and at least one was part Normal-type, then yes, it would be viable.

Re: Holon Arc!

I want to help develope this arc but don't know how >_<. The ideas I've read up on so far are all really good by the way. For the seperation arc we could introduce a gang of bandits or some shit.

Re: Holon Arc!

Reposted from the Discussion Forum on TvTropes:

So, I have a plan for what my characters will be doing during Holonquest.
I) I will be introducing Kerri-Lynn's Anti-Counterpart Sophie.
II) Related to I, I will be explaining why she's in Holon.
Sophie is another graduate of Mauville University, a Pokemon Professor that specializes in Pokemon relations in the wild. She was drawn to Holon because of a rumor of a group of Delta mons that have developed the equivalent of a city-state in a remote part of Holon, which she has dubbed Ravnica. (Yes, this is going to be a huge MTG reference. Deal with me a bit.)
This city state is broken into ten groups of Delta Mons, which she through talks with Psychic mons, she has mapped roughly.
1) The Azorius Senate:
Azorius is a very orderly territory, kept in one of the many temples in the area of Ravnica. It is guarded by a Psychic/Flying Luxray named Isperia. Azorius maintains order in the city-state of Ravnica.
2) The Orzhov Church:
Orzhov is a very ornate territory, almost garishly so. It's never quite daylight or night there. The Church of Deals is maintained here, where an afterlife in the Orzhova Ghost Council can possibly be achieved... for the right price.
3) The House Dimir:
What? What is this Dimir you speak of? Shh... It's not supposed to get out... No one really knows where the territory marked by the Dimir is... Because every member of it is a Psychic/Dark Delta that steals the thoughts of anyone that gets information on the Dimir. It is currently leaded by a Psychic/Dark Zoroark named Lazav.
4) The Izzet League:
"BOOM! THAT WAS AWESOME! LETS DO IT AGAIN!" Is something you can usually hear emanating from the Izzet League. Nominally, they are the scientists that make sure the infrastructure of Ravnica (Roads, technology, etc.) is continually improving. But... Really, they just care more about making Weirds (Delta Rotom of conflicting types like Fire/Ice, Fire/Water, Rock/Electric, etc.)The Izzet League is lead by the Psychic/Dragon Druddigon Niv-Mizzet, and to a lesser extent a group of his 40 top followers, the collection of the Firemind.
5) The Cult of Rakdos
"A Party that you'll Die for~" One huge Fête Worse than Death. Lead by the (thankfully, usually slumbering) Fire/Ghost Gengar, Rakdos. It's the... entertainment district. Murder, cannibalism, and other atrocities are commonplace here, and only increase when Rakdos wakens.
6) The Golgari Swarm
They are the agriculturists of Ravnica, and completely in tune with the cycle of life, death, and undeath. Every mon is either Bug, Grass, Ghost, or some combination of the three, and is almost definitely in some sort of decay. It is lead by a Grass/Ghost Cacturne named Jarad.
7)The Gruul Clans
"CRUSH THEM!" A direct quote from Borborygymos, the Giant Fighting/Ground Conkeldurr. The Gruul clans aren't actually lead by Borborygymos, but he leads the biggest and strongest clan, and thus has the respect of almost everyone in the clans. They hang on the outskirts of the city, and occasionally storm in and crush stuff to reclaim for the clans.
8) The Boros Legion
The military force and lawkeepers of Ravnica, they are lead by the Angels, a group of Fire/Flying Winged Gardevoir, that lead the charge into their very numerous battles. The most powerful, Aurelia, usurped control from the previous leader, Razia after she was disgraced. A select group, called the Sunhome initiative works with the Izzet League to develop new warriors, armors, and weapons.
9) The Selesnya Conclave
The nature keepers, the Selesnya embrace all into their loving group. They think themselves a tight-knit family, but most of the rest of Ravnica believes them a Nature loving brainwashing cult. They all hear each other's thoughts through Mat'Selesyna, the voice of nature, which is interpreted through a trio of Grass/Psychic Sudowoodo bound at the root to the ground, in total called Trostani.
10) The Simic Combine
The Simic Combine is full of strange mutant mons that seem like hybrids of other mons. It is lead by the Grass/Water Milotic Zegana, though she claims that she's no more in control than anyone else in the Simic Combine. Few outside of the Combine go into it willing, mostly because they're terrified of the (often huge) beasts that wander around.
III) Psyche and whoever wants to tag along will be investigating a competition between the guilds over the control of Ravnica.
IV) ???
V) Profit!
Thoughts?

Re: Holon Arc!

Some notes about Holon. Nothing final, of course.

Pokemon healing

Due to Pokeballs not working, Centers are only equipped with rooms to treat one or two mons at a time(rooms are similar to ones seen in the anime, viewing window, bed thing, etc.) There's also Potions and the like.

Poke Marts

They still exist. This apparently needed clearing up.

We need some details on the towns though.

35

Re: Holon Arc!

So the Holon arc starts in a few weeks, yet I feel as if the Holon Region as a whole doesn't feel fleshed out very much at this point, which makes it a bit hard to actually plan anything to do.

Can we work on fleshing things out a bit? Like discussing how a lack of Pokéballs effects Holon culture? What each of the five towns is like? Or even what sort of Pokémon live where, if possible?

36

Re: Holon Arc!

First question that comes to mind...

Which city would be the best one for the Museum?

37

Re: Holon Arc!

I'd say Holon City, it's right next to the Holon Ruins and Mirage Forest.

38

Re: Holon Arc!

It's also the biggest city in the reigon...even if the TCG depicts it as just a few buildings in a circle: http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/4/41/Holon_City.jpg

39

Re: Holon Arc!

Yeah, Holon City works best for the museum.

My girlfriend is a Volcarona, your argument is invalid.

Re: Holon Arc!

Here's my ideas.

Joulant Town

A small seaside town with a  a science lab. The gate into Holon is here. There's a port to the side that leads to the Delta Islands.

Coulombia City

Second biggest city in Holon, this is where a good chunk of the of the non scientists living in the region are. It has the strategic location of being placed at the beginning of the tail leading to Kanto. As a result, it is a major trading city, with various markets and such. Likely a branch of Silph or Devon, or even both would be here.

Artree Town

A quiet, town whose buildings are heavily forest influenced. It is connected to Mirage Forest. There are supposedly sightings of "phantom" Pokemon(As in seemingly ghost-like mons.) from the nearby forest coming into the town to terrorize the townsfolk at night. (EX Holon Phantoms anyone?) Also, Mew sightings. Many Holon Fieldworkers are here, where they study Mirage Forest.

Mirage Forest

Large Forest on the Eastern side. It is home to "phantom" Pokemon and a Mew. The Mew is the reason the scientific community of Holon sprang up.

Ergon City

]Ergon City is a Southern plains town that like Coulombia City, is home to a large non-scientist community. Think Solaceon town, but much bigger. They are located in the middle of Ergon field, and  as such have a mon racing track. This is one of the major draws to the city. Additionally, there is a farming community here. This is basically the Midwest of the US.

Holon City

Holon City is the central city of the region, and the first one. It is home to the Holon Research Tower, the device that caused the Delta effect, several labs, a possible PEFE building, and the Holon Museum. The museum houses artifacts from the nearby Holon Ruins, the rest of the region, and other regions. The Research Tower has three generators around it. It is located bewteen Holon Lake and Mirage Forest, with a river running from Lake Volata through the city, forming a Pokeball shape. The Mirage Marsh is to its south.

In addition to Scientists, the city houses a few adventurers who venture into the ruins, Mt. Ohmeg, Calor Desert, and Mirage Forest, and recover many of the artifacts, selling them to the museum for the right price.

Lake Holon(not a city, I know)

A blue-ish orb sits in the center of the lake, smack dab between three pillars forming a triangle. A Registeel is located in an underwater cave beneath the site.

Cergus Town

Located at the foot of Mt. Ohmeg, Cergus is the gateway into the mountain. It's mainly a starting town for hikers of the mountain. It's not very big. One lab for mountain Pokemon study.

Mt. Ohmeg

Like Holon Lake, the mountain possesses the same triangle formation, this time with the pillars being crystals, and no orb in the middle. A Regice is loacted here.

Calor Desert

Same site as Holon Lake. However, all pieces of this triangle are made of stone. A Regirock is located here.

Torquan Island

This island is accessible by boat from Amperial City or Coulombia City. It's very tropical, and has some crystals growing on the beach. There is a small island community living here. It's a popular vacation spot among Holon...people(they need a name.) Posesses one lab for studying the tropical mons.

Amperial City

Amperial City is the northernmost city, and is located above Lake Volata. It is another port city, possessing similar trade opportunities as Coulombia City. It also has a large non-scientist population. Its proximity to Lake Volata makes it a prime spot for a bat transport down to Holon City and Cergus Town. It is also located near Mirage forest.

Re: Holon Arc!

Looks good, Straw, though I thought we decided Holon isn't actually connected to Kanto but is Shrodinger's distance north of it?

My girlfriend is a Volcarona, your argument is invalid.

42 (edited by BittersweetNSour 2013-06-21 22:37:25)

Re: Holon Arc!

It is connected, but it's such a long distance that it can't be considered "part" of it. But that little tail at the south end of the region has to be connected to something.

A Map for Ergon City

The red building in the west/southwest with the brown path outside is the racetrack, the red building in the southeast is the daycare. That blurry thing in the center of town is the Marketplace and the other red buildings are supposed to be farms.
