-Crewe leads Herbert inside and drops his hand as they walk in-
I'll go get us somewhere to sit... you go order if you want something to drink, okay?
-she gives him a small smile, then pushes past a few jocks arguing about how best to train their Pokemon and sits down at a corner table, tracing the pattern of the wood with one finger-
-Herbert's rather despondent expression doesn't change.-
Herbert: Alright, I'll go get us some drinks. On me. It's only fair that I pay for the first date.
-He heads over to the bar, then returns to the corner table a couple of minutes later with a glass of lemonade in both hands.-
Herbert: There we go. One for you, and one for me.
-He gives a small smile and takes a sip of his own drink, before sighing quietly.-
Herbert: ...I have to say, I am definitely not keen on having that kind of conversation again anytime soon.
-Crewe returns his smile as he comes back with the drinks-
Thanks.
-she swirls hers around in her cup a few times before taking a small sip, then sighs-
Yeah, me neither… but it all turned out for the better, right? He'll be fine. Besides, we didn't really have many better options.
-she cocks an eyebrow and gives him a small, teasing smile-
Would you rather we wouldn't have done that? I highly doubt we would be here right now.
-Herbert smirks and takes another sip of his lemonade.-
Herbert: I suppose we'll just have to make sure that it was worth it, then. I'd hate it if all the trouble I went through to end up sitting at this table ended up as a wasted effort.
-Crewe laughs-
You're right. This table better be the best damn table in all of Kalos.
DRAMATIC ENTRY! Psyche bursts through the door! ~''Oh Herbie~ Your cousin would like a word with you~''~
-Herbert continues to smirk at Crewe.-
Herbert: I couldn't care less about the table. It's the girl sitting at the other end of it that I'm interested in.
-He then glances up at Psyche upon hearing her burst through the door.-
Herbert: Can't it wait? We're trying to have a moment over here.
Psyche smirks at Crewebert. ~''D'aww, the little lovebirds. Anyway, Herbie, I have a bit of a bone to pick with you.''~
-Crewe snorts, but grins, blushing ever so slightly-
You're a dork, fruitcake.
-she blinks at Psyche, then looks back at Herbert-
She's a psychic, you can't really stop her if she's mad at you. She can yell at you from outside if she wants.
-she reaches over and squeezes his hand briefly-
Good luck.
-Herbert gives Crewe an almost goofily awkward smile in return.-
Herbert: Hey, I may be a dork, but just remember that I'm your dork now.
-His smile then fades as she squeezes his hand.-
Herbert: ...Thanks. I'll try to make this quick.
-He stands up and turns to Psyche.-
Herbert: So, what exactly are you mad at me for this time, then?
Psyche glares at Crewe. ~That. WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL, DUDE? YOU GO AFTER A GIRL LESS THAN AN HOUR AFTER HER BREAK UP? Or did you break the two up?~
-Herbert sighs at Psyche and rests one of his hands on his forehead.-
Herbert: Ugh, I knew someone was going to bring this up... look, we talked about it, okay? Me and Crewe just sat down, had a chat, and we decided that... well, that we like each other. Like, a lot. So all that we really had to do to make it official was break the news to Straw. I know this must suck for him. He's a decent guy, and I don't have anything against him, but we just... we decided that things were better this way.
-Crewe looks down at her drink and flicks the glass with a fingernail-
Psyche… please don't yell at him for that.
She shakes her head. ~I literally have no idea how we can possibly be more different. I don't understand how people just flit from one mate to another. Psychics mate for life. You... you're a stereotypical guy. Crewe is anything but the stereotypical girl. But she and Straw were happy together. YOU JUST HAD TO GO AFTER A GIRL WHO WAS TAKEN. When did you two stop hating each other?~
Herbert: We never hated each other in the first place! Sure, we might bicker constantly and call each other names and occasionally have massive blowout arguments that result in us not talking to each other for days, but we don't hate each other, or else we wouldn't be dating at the moment.
-He gives another sigh.-
Herbert: Listen, I know that Straw was happy with Crewe. You don't have to make me feel any shittier about this than I already do.
Psyche sighs and shakes her head. ~And people wonder why I hate people. They make no Arceusdammed sense. I'll leave you two to your date. I hope you two are temporarily happy together.~
She walks out.
-Crewe gets up and goes to stand next to Herbert, taking his hand and squeezing it comfortingly-
Don't worry about her, okay? Even if other people are upset... the only ones we have to worry about with this is ourselves. Let them worry about their own relationships.
-Herbert sighs as Psyche walks out of the cafe and Crewe squeezes his hand.-
Herbert: I might as well get used to this kind of thing now. After all, Caroline may be the first person to give me crap about this, but I doubt she'll be the last.
-He gives a small smile and wraps his arm around Crewe.-
Herbert: At the end of the day, though, I couldn't care less about what other people think. As long as I'm with you, I'm happy. And that's all that really matters in the end.
-Crewe smiles and wraps her arm around his waist-
Exactly. It's none of their business, anyway.
-she gives him a quick kiss on the cheek, then sits back down at the table and takes a sip of lemonade-
I don't get why you're getting all the shit for this and not me. It's not fair.
-Herbert goes red as Crewe kisses him, then follows her lead and sits back down at the table, smiling broadly.-
Herbert: It's a small price to pay, if you ask me.
-His expression becomes somewhat more pensive as he takes a sip of his lemonade.-
Herbert: I guess I can see why people might think I'm responsible in some way, though... I mean, you and Straw never really had any problems until I came along.
-Crewe laughs-
Who would've thought you could be sweet, fruitcake?
-she makes a face-
It's not like anything would have happened unless I did anything, though. It's not fair for everyone to be mad at you.
-Herbert smirks as he takes another sip of his lemonade.-
Herbert: I can go back to being a jerk if it'd make you feel more comfortable.
-He then furrows his brow.-
Herbert: And I'm not saying you're wrong - it does take two to tango, after all. People can be dumb at times. But I can live with it. As I've already established, it's not worth losing sleep over.
-Crewe laughs-
Oh, I'm sure once the shine wears off you'll be back to the jerk I know and love. But I'll take nice Herbert while I can.
-she frowns-
I hate to see you take the fall for everything, but if you're sure...
-Herbert puts his hand on top of Crewe's.-
Herbert: Seriously, don't worry about me. I'm more thick-skinned than you might think, and I'd much rather be the fall guy than see you stuck in that kind of situation. This is probably harder for you than it is for me, after all.
-she smiles at him-
All right. Thank you, Herbert.
... But you know, you're not the only one who got something good out of all this.
