National Park, Other!Verse
Some Pokémon are roaming across the tall grass. Their hearing and scent on alert on a particular day such as this in particular for a heterogeneous group of them who happen to answer to a common name.
A pair of purple, pointy ears flickered in the grass listening to a poor Caterpie, a shiny one to add insult to injury, being chased around by a Lairon. The Nidorino thought for himself, that mon will soon be prize or scrap.
The grass bent suddenly near the poison rabbit who turned around to watch a human figure closing in, followed by a small flying Pokémon. The Nidorino quickly moved away to put some distance between himself and the human before turning around. A orange-colored Pokémon appeared first circling the area of the grass where the Nidorino was wandering around.
Charmander: <Oh, I found something!> -- puts up a threatening face.
????: <You won't see me for too long.> -- readies himself to fire poison needles at the Charmander.
The human approached, looking around in the grass until he catches sight of the Nidorino. Whatever interest the young human had vanished near instantly.
Cooltrainer Nick: "Oh... no, no, Charmander!" -- waves hands at the Pokémon who looks quizically -- <That's not a bug…>
The Charmander assumes a looser stance as he watches his (Cool)Trainer jolt down some notes in a notebook.
Charmander: <I-I thought...>
Cooltrainer Nick: "Well, looks like a very good one, perhaps it knows some good moves but not this time... we have to look for []bugs], Charmander. You get the concept, right?"
Charmander -tilts head: <T-things that wander in the grass?> -- points to the Nidorino.
????: <Oh please...> -- rolls eyes.
The human gives some looks at the Nidorino, trying to remember his features since Nidorino are nowhere near a common sight in this area. Suddenly remembering he has a camera in his back pocket, the human tries to reach for it without scaring the Pokémon.
Charmander -with a serious voice: <Well you are free to go, this time.>
????: <Why do I feel so relieved…> -- waves a paw, then notices the human about to aim at him with something -- <If you ever get bored of fighting Caterpies, we might talk. So long.>
As soon as the human tries to get the camera's focus on the Nidorino, the Pokémon turns around and quickly disappears in the tall grass, with such a skill that only the first few rows of grass blades shake with the motion of the Pokémon. it is impossible to know where has he gone from there on.
The human sighs, then turns around as he hears someone yelling battle commands and then what appears like a large body hitting the ground, not on its own volition.
Cooltrainer Nick: "Oh noes! Charmander, we have to hurry!" -- calls for the Pokémon to follow as he walks away -- "We have to get a Venomoth or something if we want to beat damn Camper Barry to that [Sun Stone]..."
After the human and Charmander have moved away, the Nidorino peeks from between the bushes listening to the battle beyond, recalling an old Nidoran from the colony having been caught and passed down as a gift to a kid.
Maekrite smiles as he distinguished the sounds of the motions of a Scyther. At least that Nidoking was having some fun.
…
…
Later that day, a group of Nidorino gathered near the eastern edge of the National Park, reporting to finish their daily routine. The colony patrollers, calling themselves the Owsla, talked for a moment about the missed opportunities of the day and made some plans for the next days to roam and watch over the route to the east.
Suddenly, the Nidorino named Maekrite step forwards.
Maekrite: <Uh.... sir? M-mind if I finish my patrol routine now? I would like to… er,> -- blushes a bit -- <return to the southern lands before night.>
Some of the other Nidorino give shifty looks at Maekrite, but the boss of the group shuts them up with a glare. He points at the younger Nidorino with his horn.
Owsla Boss: <Fine, you can go. But you'll work double round on Monday. Is that clear?> -- roars.
Maekrite: <Y-yes… thanks.> -- smiles.
A couple of silent reverences between the members of the group later, Maekrite leaves rushing to the south. The others split in two groups to carry on with the patrolling of the human routes for the next hours, some of them talking about how lucky, or weird, depending on perspective, Maekrite had got, given that he was spending a lot of time in a farm land to the south with various members of other species.
Maekrite didn't care that much what the others would think about [roaming] the human city or about why he had chosen the mate he did, even if it was outside of his species. He just grabbed the freshest herbs he could find from a nearby pond, cleaned himself and rushed to the south past the Magnet Train.
To his [mate].
