Topic: Randomized Yellow Nuzlocke-y thing
Hello, people! I'm doing this thing, I guess! Yay for following trends!
Anyway, I decided to do a randomized Nuzlocke of Pokémon Yellow. I used the program from this site to randomize the game, with the following settings on:
Update Type Effectiveness
Update Moves
Remove Trade Evolutions
No Game-Breaking Moves
Pokémon Base Statistics: Random (follow evolutions)
Starter Pokémon: Random (basic Pokémon with 2 evolutions)
Pokémon Types: Random (follow evolutions)
Pokémon Movesets: Random (preferring same type)
Trainers Pokémon: Type Themed
Rival carries starter through game
Try to use Pokémon with similar strength
Don't use legendaries
Wild Pokémon: Area 1-to-1 Mapping
Catch 'Em All Mode
Don't use legendaries
Set minimum catch rate
Static Pokémon: Random (Legendary <-> Legendary & Normal <-> Normal)
TM Moves: Random
TM/HM Compatibility: Random (prefer same type)
Er... yeah. So, if anyone has any questions about these settings, let me know below. For the most part, I think they're pretty self-explanatory.
For the most part, randomized Nuzlockes have not gone well for me in the past. Not at all. Regardless, I'm going to start this up.
Pikachu appears at the title screen as usual. Thanks to my settings, though, it should be impossible for Pikachu to be my starter, as it isn't a basic Pokémon with two evolutions. So, no Pikachu for now! Or possibly at all, depending on whether or not one comes up during the game.
Anyway, I change my text speed to FAST. Now that I think about it, all my friends play with FAST text speed... I wonder if there's anyone who doesn't. Eh, I'm sure there is.
And because I'm somewhat conceited, I name myself ZEAL.
My rival, on the other hand, is ROKY. I doubt anyone will get that reference.
Anyway, as of now, the game begins! But not the challenge quite yet. And I say 'anyway' way too much...
Oh, while I'm thinking about it!
Some of my variations on the Nuzlocke rules:
The challenge begins once I have access to Poké Balls. In other words, once I get Poké Balls, I can catch something on Route 1, even if I already saw a Pokémon there before arriving in Viridian City.
Gift Pokémon don't count as the first thing seen in any area. For example, in Pallet Town, I'd be allowed both my starter and a Pokémon caught by fishing.
Duplicate Pokémon ARE allowed. If the first Pokémon I see on a route is something I already have, it still counts as the thing I'm allowed to catch for that route.
Losing all of the Pokémon in my party is NOT failure if I have Pokémon in my PC.
I probably forgot a few of my rules, and will inform you of them when they become necessary.
Anyway, I get the Potion from the PC in my bedroom, and head outside.
Oak stops me from heading out onto Route 1. A battle begins...
Caterpie! My starter will be Caterpie! Excellent! Well, at the very least, it'll evolve quickly, and that's nice. Assuming I survive that long...
I get to the lab, and Roky takes the starter on the table. I really hope that I have a type advantage against whatever he has, since I doubt Caterpie's going to be doing much in this first battle...
All right, Caterpie's Rock/Water. That might be helpful in the future, unless my rival's starter is Grass or something. That wouldn't be convenient at all.
By the way, while I remember!
This is a log file of the randomization performed. I'm not going to look at it, but I figured I'd leave it here in case someone else wants to.
And this is a preset file to perform the same randomization I did. I doubt either of these files'll be used, but here they are, just in case!
All right! First rival battle time! Let's do this!
His starter is an Abra, I see. Hopefully that won't be a bad thing in the long run. Or right now, for that matter. My Caterpie's name is FOURTEEN, by the way, since I wanted it to be named after a number, and 14 is without question the greatest number in existence.
Due to the Abra's use of Twineedle and its weakness to Rock Throw, I think it would be reasonable to assume that Abra is Bug-type. Last turn, it went first, so it probably has higher Speed than me. To avoid losing, I'd probably have to use the Potion from earlier. Though, in the long run, that wouldn't do much, since it'd just use Twineedle again and bring me down to a similar amount of health as I had before. So, I'm just going to abuse the fact that my challenge doesn't officially start until I get Poké Balls and let Roky win.
There, he used Twineedle again and won. I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE, ROKY! I SWEAR IT!
Oak appears to go insane after my unofficial loss, as I do not own a Pikachu, and Fourteen does not seem to have a problem with Poké Balls at all. It seems perfectly content inside its.
You know what, since using 'it' to refer to Fourteen is beginning to annoy me, and Generation I doesn't have genders, I'm just going to assume Fourteen is male for the duration of this playthrough.
I get another Potion from the Poké Mart employee on Route 1. I walk a little more, and run into my first wild Pokémon...
Psyduck! That actually isn't too bad. I hope that's what I run into once my challenge starts. It used Sludge, so I'm assuming it's Poison-type. I'm not a big fan of Poison-type, but I like Psyduck. Actually, I like pretty much everything. But still.
Once I arrive in Viridian City, I heal Fourteen at the Pokémon Center, and get the Potion hidden in the Cut tree.
I enter the Poké Mart, and get Oak's Parcel from the employee.
And I head back to Pallet Town to deliver it. I get the Pokédex in return.
Then I go to Roky's house and get a Town Map from Daisy. I really don't need it, but why not?
I still don't have Poké Balls, so I KO another Psyduck on my way to Viridian.
In Viridian, I spend all my money on Poké Balls. So, now the challenge is officially beginning! I am almost one hundred percent positive that I will fail. Still, it's sure to be fun.
In case it isn't obvious enough already, I wrote this without any effort as I played. If you have suggestions for nicknames or something, let me know, I guess. First post COMPLETE.
