Chum: <Four? I count three of you...>
Scouter: <Did not mean you!>
-Scouter gestures in the direction of the Drapion-
The Bibarel turn in the direction of the Drapion, who snarls at them and then at Scouter.
Drapion Mother: <Hey, this was not your business! I'm feeding my family! And if you try more of that…> -- sounds pincers menacingly -- <'ll have to add you to the menu!>
With that, the Drapion starts by firing Pin Missiles at the Bibarel to keep them at bay, then moves heerself away, keeping a keen (not Keen) eye at Chum and Scouter.
Gyarados Spy -buffs: <This is a sad day.> -- to Chum -- <Do you intend to nom the Bibarel yourself instead?>
Scouter: <Lookout duty is important! Unsure about getting further involved, though!>
Chum: <Nah, Bibarel's not usually a part of my diet and I don't really feel like trying it right now.>
In between taking turns at clogging the leak and bringing various pebbles, trunks and braches, thee Pokémon of the Marsh are already nearly successful in preventing what could have been a nasty situation. Proud of a work not yet finished but still well done, a certain Gyarados emerges and straightens up tall, eyeing Maggie and making sure she doesn't go away.
-Maggie notices the Gyarados eyeing her-
Maggie: "Oh yeah..."
"You want the challenge now, right?"
The Gyarados swings around and roars.
Gyarados #1: <IF YOU WOULDN'T MIND, YES!!!!!> -- clears throat seeing the others eye him -- <But not here. Dam in reparation, you know.>
Gyarados #2 -emerges for a moment: <Back where we were downstream things should be calmer already.>
The Bibarel who were repairing the dam, scared by the Pin Missile, pick their stuff and run towards the dam as fast as they can, leaving their fallen colleague behind. Rule of Nature, after all.
A certain Drapion father and a cluster of Skorupi can be seen hidden atop a mound waiting for the mother to bring the breakfast.
Maggie: "Yeah, let's head down there."
"Scouter and Chum are ther anyway."
At a shallow pond, the Gyarados awaits for the opponent for his Promised Challenge. He anounces himself with some roars (not Roars) and a Dragon Rage at a random stone just because. The Gyarados Spy, who is watching from a distance having followed Scouter and Chum, smirks at the ISO standard display of Gyarados power.
Gyarados #1: <This will be a great day, a awesome day. Awesome is a word I learnt from listening to humans.>
Then he looks down at Maggie and whatever Pokémon is by her side.
Gyarados #1: <Come at me~>
The wild Gyarados
wants to battle!
▾
Maggie: "You ready, Scouter?"
Scouter: <Yes!>
Maggie: "Great. Use Super Fang!"
-Scouter leaps at the Gyarados, fangs bared-
The Gyarados tries to swat Scouter with his tail, but is too late to do so and ends up with the fangs dug deep in the scales on his side. With a hiss, the Gyarados shakes himself and slithers towards the water to Dive himself in it, hoping to drag Scouter along for the ride.
-Scouter tries dislodging his fangs from the Gyarados before he is taken underwater, but does so a bit too late and gets a mouthful of marshwater-
Scouter: -coughs- <Unexpected!> -coughs-
Maggie: "I think someone better suited to the water would be better for this..."
-She holds out Scouter's Poke Ball and calls back the coughing Watchog-
Maggie: "You give it a try, Chum!"
Chum: <Will do!>
-Chum heads out towards the water where the Gyardos submerged, cautiously waiting for it to surface-
The Gyarados observes Scouter be recalled and a Sharpedo be sent out in its place; he coils nervously at the change in strategy.
Gyarados: <My scales are already damaged and they hurt like hell but let's see if you at least can take a hit!>
With that the Gyarados swings around and then propels itself upwards and out of the shallow water, aiming at Chum to ram him out of the water in his way up.
-Chum is hit by the upwardly-propelled Gyarados, taking a fair amount of damage, though also damaging the Gyarados with his Rough Skin-
Maggie: "Hm... use a weaker attack, Chum, I want to see if I can catch him!"
Chum: <Eh... Alright.>
-He then coats himself in water and rushes at the Gyarados for an Aqua Jet-
Gyarados notices the Aqua Jet and braces himself for the impact, which causes little damage but still pushes him down to the surface of the pond. He responds with a snarl, then quickly slithers at Chum.
Gyarados: <You won't have me that easy. Let's see you try to treat me as a weakling again!>
And moves himself to one side, then Spites upon the Sharpedo.
-Chum is affected by the Spite, limiting the number of times he can use Aqua Jet-
Aqua Jet Uses Remaining: 3▾
Chum: <Heh, you're already weak. Shouldn't need to use any more of those.>
Maggie: "Try another Aqua Jet!"
-Chum coats himself in water and rushes at the Gyarados again-
The Gyarados yells as he is hurt by both the Aqua Jet and the Rough Skin, and instinctively tries to swat Chum to the ground with his tail; then he snaps, slithers away a short distance and starts swinging around while chanting in ancient language; the skies get ominously and locally dark as a soft wind circle at around the water level.
Gyarados: <I'm annoyed and tired of this! Have some punishment!>
And he unleashes a Twister across the pond.
Aqua Jet Uses Remaining: 2▾
-Chum is struck by the Twister, falling to low health as a result-
Chum: <Huh, don't know if I can take much more.>
Maggie: "I think that's enough."
-Maggie takes a Ball out of her bag-
Maggie: "Alright, let's give this a go!"
-She throws the ball at the Gyarados-
…Aaaand the ball hits the Gyarados squarely on the tail. The Pokémon has just a moment to growl before the energy beam sucks him inside, and the ball drops to the pond…
…where it sinks.
(*wobble*)
-The ball sinks lower into the water-
Maggie: "Can you follow it, Chum?"
Chum: <Yeah, hold on.>
-Chum goes below the water and looks at the ball-
-It shakes again-
Chum: <Hm...>
-It shakes a third time-
Chum: <Is it...>
-The ball looks like it's starting to open-
-Then clicks-
Chum: <Whew.>
-Chum takes the ball in his mouth and swims back to the surface-
-Maggie sees Chum come to the surface-
Maggie: "Did we catch it?"
-Chum nods, then heads out of the water and up to Maggie-
-She takes the ball from him-
Maggie: "Hm..."
-Maggie sends the Gyarados out of his ball-
Gyarados #1: <I didn't go down willingly, I let you capture me.>
Chum: <Sure you did...>
-The Gyarados shoots a glare, but not a Glare, at Chum-
Maggie: "Now for a name..."
Gyarados #1: <Make sure it's a name I truly deserve.>
Maggie: "Right..."
"How about Damburst?"
Damburst: <...I'll accept it as long as you don't nag me with it.>
Maggie: "Great."
"Now lets see if we can't find Silent."
And where'd Ichtacya go anyway? I thought she'd be back by now...
-They head out in search of Silent, Ichtacya, and Python-
While the glorious battle took place, the Bibarel have finished fixing the dam, with some help from the Gyarados. The group of Bibarel (who are not guards) gather together to celebrate.
Bibarel #3: <All right peoplemons, we are so cool! Show tails!>
They all turn around and start slapping their tails together on the ground in a similar way to how humans gather together with the coach in some sports, you know.
Bibarel #1: <We!>
Bibarel #2: <Are!>
Bibarel #3: <A!>
Bibarel #4: <So!>
Bibarel #5: <Cool!>
…
…
Bibarel #2 -looks around: <Hey, guys, where's Bobby?>
Bibarel #4 -blinks, facepalms: <Oh right, got nommed by a Drapion shortly ago.>
The Bibarel start looking at each other.
Bibarel #2: <Oh well...> -- looks far away -- <Arceus look at the time! To our nests, peoplemons!>
And with the city of Pastoria protected from what was going to be a terrible small disaster, they happily march away…
Some distance near the Marsh there is a small pit with a couple of trees above. Hanging from the branches are two ropes from which Silent and Ichtacya were hanging from before. The pair now sits atop a mound observing as the Ekans and Arbok move around and eat their stuff. Ichtacya in particular looks displeased and shudders a couple of times.
<I just want to get out of here.> She stands up and walks behind Silent, who sighs.
"Weren't you go to let Maggie's group know?" he answers, pointing to the food the Ekans are carrying.
<Well I would but…> -- she points to what is essentially a hissing sea of Poison-types.
Meanwhile down the pit a certain Ekans is having a friendly time with a clutch of Sinn Ekans who are playing games and trading food.
<Got any three?> asks Python, carefully watching his leaves.
One of the Ekans in the clutch rattles. <I only have a six…> -- Then he smirks. <Thanks for letting me know~>
Python sighs and rolls a Bidoof egg he had just earned the last turn towards the other Ekans, then letting out a hiss.
Another of the Ekans then intervenes. <I have a five-leaved clover. That automatically gains me your Roserade flowerpaw.> -- he casually mentions to the first Ekans from the clutch.
Meanwhile Ichtacya climbs up to Silent's head as a group of Arbok come around bringing some food they managed to snatch from the Bibarel nests while they were busy dealing with some Gyarados. Silent takes note of the behaviour then picks Ichtacya up and takes her off his head before his neck breaks, the Leafeon not taking the gesture of being returned to the swampy ground very kindly.
<I seriously think we should move them elsewhere,> -- Ichtacya mutters -- <perhaps atop a volcano…>
Silent nods, worried about the Arbok's interference in the ecosystem. "I'll have to think about the 'move them' part."
-Maggie, Scouter, Chum, and Damburst...-
-Well, Maggie, Scoouter, and Chum, at least, have been looking for Silent, Python, and Ichtacya-
Maggie: "Hm... Still can't find them."
Scouter: <Concerned about their safety!>
Chum: <Yeah, Arbok are kind of dangerous, even if they aren't powerful sorcerers.>
Damburst: <You won't need to worry about snakes when you've got a dragon on your side!>
Chum: <Of course we won't...>
-Scouter's expression seems to light up-
Scouter: <Silent and Ichtacya found!>
Maggie: "Oh?"
-Scouter points at them in the distance-
-Maggie nods as she, Scouter, Chum, and Damburst head in that direction-
Ichtacya hears something in the distance and turns around to see Maggie and team.
Ichtacya: <Finally somemon friendly!>
Eighteen pairs of Ekans and Arbok turn to glare at her.
Ichtacya: <°.°>
Silent waves a greeting in the direction of Maggie, while the Arbok around, noticing the new entrants, get a bit rattled and start moving the food and leaves they've collected into their caves, in particular after they notice the Gyarados coming on the way.
"Sorry that we couldn't assist more, Maggie, but we're kinda stalled at convincing the Arbok to behave."
Ichtacya -stands on Silent's back: <How did things go? What was that big tremor?>
Maggie: -to Silent- "Oh, it's fine. We got along fine without you."
Scouter: -to Ichtacya- <The dam broke!>
Maggie: "Oh, yeah, it did. But the Bibarel and Gyarados managed to work together to get it put back together."
Damburst: <Pah! We could have fixed that dam ourselves!>
-Chum rolls his eyes-
Silent stands up, checks that Python is OK and still identifiable in between the mass of Ekans, and walks up to Maggie to give her a couple of Schrödinger Berries for her mons.
"Oh, so at least you got some decent challenge." -- looks at the Gyarados -- "A new friend, I assume?"
Ichtacya -walks up to Scouter, still leery of the Arbok: <You still haven't seen Sol by any chance?>
