Re: Tangent's Scrap Heap

A story told to comfort a Druddigon (or perhaps an Archen?) on a stormy night...

Once upon a time there was a Druddigon.

The Druddigon lived in a cave somewhere around the Victory Road area; though at that time it wasn't known as such.

It was a time of famine.

Food was scare, and the Druddigon was concerned for the rest of his family;
being able-bodied but with no other ties in life, he set out to see if there was any food in the mysterious lands to the south.

It was a chaotic time then, the Unova region reeling from a terrible war.

As the Druddigon snuck along through the woods, a Hyper Beam narrowly missed him;

A hunger-crazed Hydreigon bore down on him!

Not being able to match the Hydreigon's aerial superiority, the Druddigon had no choice but to run deeper into the woods.

It was dark.

Every so often his pursuer would blindly fire an attack after him.

And he heard... things.

He didn't know what, but more than once something small tried to take a bite of him, he only being saved by his Rough Skin.

His own stomach running on empty, he began to feel faint;
and despondent. He had found nothing for himself, let alone his parents or his siblings.

And it looked like somewhere here, in this unfamiliar land, he would breath his last.

A sudden Draco Meteor crashed perilously close to him, knocking him out of his musing for the moment, and he blindly ran a few steps further, the ground suddenly giving way to... nothing.

His eyes were blinded as he fell back into sunlight and off a cliff, landing in a river.

He awoke that evening, sopping wet, only having escaped his predator by some unknown miracle; looking up from the shore, he saw some mysterious lights.

He had heard stories of humans before, the most salient facts being their taming of Fire despite no favorable typing, and their habit of storing up reliable food reserves.

But those were surely myths?

But with nothing else to go for, he dizzily plodded up the slopes, collapsing through the wall of the nearest wooden hut.

Was this one of those legendary storehouses, a larder he could subsist on?

Not quite... he had imposed upon the shop of a stationary-maker, the master of papercraft for a hundred miles around.

Humans in that time would have been easily forgiven for slaying a dragon that had taken their wall down like that... but these humans deferred to nobler authorities.

The Druddigon was fed a few cheeses by a neighboring dairymaid, and given tea with a sprig of mint to drink. Baffled at the hospitality, but grateful, he gulped them down voraciously.

Then a large, white figure came to fil his vision.

<What brings you so far from your home?>

Tired, confused, the Druddigon had nothing to say but the truth; he told of the famine striking even wild lands, of his parents trying to keep their children protected, of his sister and how there was a time she would smile as she glided from cropping to cropping...

And of the hell he went through on his way to find any assistance for them.

<Please...> he pled; <Let me take some food back to them, that our family may live a bit longer...>

After a moment's silence, the figure replied, placing a feathered arm on his shoulder,

<You have come this far, for the sake of a family you speak highly of. I can tell one truth about you: you are loyal. And as fortune would have it for you, loyalty is what we need right now...>

She gestured at a stone tower rising above the trees nearby.

<Go, find your family, and bring them back. You will be escorted; I and my... brother... will be taking a long rest soon, for the sake of this world, and will need dedicated guardians to ensure our slumber goes undisturbed...>

[spoiler]Spagged with Every

It really depends on what is spiritually defined as earth.

Varrick: It's the darndest thing! I turned on my new Zhuliscope and took a peek at this rock. Would you believe that there's no scientific thing as Earth?!

It's all a bunch of balls spinning around like whoooooosh!

So, uh... sorry if that breaks your bending or anything like that.

Also, air is kind of ill-defined. Water and Fire are still a go.

Remind me, can you Earthbenders bend chalk?

Bolin: I think the answer is yes?

Varrick: Fun fact then! Chalk is made of the same thing that human bones are!

It's a funny loophole, really. You see, bloodbending is illegal, but they don't say a hoot about bonebending!

Bolin: Uh...does that mean that I can move your bones?

Korra:  Oh, come on! There's no way anybody could do that outside of a...you know, when *do* Earthbenders get stronger?

Varrick: Well DUH!

Firebenders get stronger when the Sun's in the sky.

Waterbenders get stronger when the Moon's in the sky.

So OBVIOUSLY Earthbenders get stronger when the Earth's in the sky!

Bolin, stand on your head for me.

Bolin: Okay!

-flip-

Varrick: Well?

Bolin: Um...I don't really think I can Earthbend like this...

Varrick: Why do you hate science?! Zhu Li, do the thing!

Zhu Li: -flips a switch, launching Bolin skyward-

Varrick: Now THAT'S Science!

Bolin: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

-crashes to the ground, bonebending everyone somehow because science-

Pained!Varrick: Zhu Li! We have advanced the cause of Science today. But set back my chiropracty treatment eight months...

you've caused me,
Make you feel the pain
you've got me in,
You soulless ape,

The home I loved, a loss
they caused me,
They could have stopped the pain
and given in,
But they had to fight,
I would not let them
Be the death of me!

Interlude
The Tribe fought back
and I lost my home,
Ever fought back
I lost the way I'd flown,
I tried to take my revenge
like in the Lunar Sea,
But when he fought back again,
I found...

Aggressively
I DIEEEEEEED, EVER, DIED!
All my life I fought to control what's mine,
My sister, home, and power divine,
But all I loved is now destroyed,
I'm living in a child's toy,

Slower, Quieter
The one I sought to kill...
Surpasses me in skill...

Beat

Do I try... to rebuild?

Beat

He was the death of me.
