-Gogie is a bit surprised, but bows too-
Aiki: "Uh, thanks."
"You're the Gym Leader here, then?"
????: "The Gym Leader you say?" -- the Samurott laughs -- "I am renowned for many things, let this be one of them."
-The Samurott pounds his chest; Aiki might note that the definitively human voice does seem to come from the Samurott, though the movements of the Pokémon might seem a bit off-
????: "I am an artist, a critic on elegance, an instructor, a Coordinator and also a Gym Leader. A renaissance... man, is what people see, so for their ease they call me Juan."
-The Samurott then hunches over a bit, eyeing the challenger more seriously; he seems to pause for a moment before speaking again-
"But tell me, to whom do I owe this challenge, that comes before me wrapped in such a curious package? Is a trainer or a fighter, or perhaps an artist, that I see?"
Aiki: "Well..."
"I wouldn't call myself a fighter now
Wasn't expecting to be a trainer
But I can try being an artist too."
Sol♀: <Hmmm, n-no...> -- shakes head, haf-curls around the Cyndaquil -- <He's... at least normal in that regard. What about your teammates? Are they [fun]?>
Silent: "It's a pretty good job when not mandated by the government. I get to travel around a lot, too. If you like Pokémon and walking around and spending a lot of time out there, I guess it's a pretty good way of life to look into."
Maekrite♂ -waves his paw: <You forget the part where it pays pretty well.> -- to Tori -- <She would always have food and work for her Pokémon.>
Silent: "Maekrite, hush. If one wants to go into these things, it has to be for the love of science."
-Mention of Mossdeep Gym-
Silent: "Got past Mossdeep, I guess then Sootopolis follows."
Sol♀ -has her interest piqued, tail whips: <Oh? Mossdeep? Aren't there Psychic leaders? Like that weird lady in Kalos...>
Silent: -nods: "Hmmm yeah now that you mention it they are quite the steep step in the gym difficulty curve." -- to Tori -- "How did that fight go?"
-The "Juan" nods, steps forward and lets out a bark, at which the lights on the edges of the room turn off, the attention focusing on the center pool-
"Juan"?: "I see, if a truth is what you seek, I accept your challenge. Let's then fight like gentlemen... the first one who has all his Pokémon [knocked off the pool], loses!"
-The Samurott proceeds to dramatically unsheathen one of his cheratin blades, and points it first to the challenger 'Charizard' and then to the walls of the room-
"Juan"? -barks: "I take your challenge, three on three!" -- points the sword to one edge of the room, then barks -- "I command thee, furies of the seas, to present your artistry as response to this challenge!"
"Bring to me the elegance of movement amidst the waves that is not lost in land!"
-Performs some elegant gestures-
"Swiftness that dizzies opponents!"
-From that edge of the room a gate opens, releasing a water torrent that reaches the pond and on top of which a [Poliwhirl] surfs to reach the ice sheet platform that serves as center stage-
"Juan"? -barks: "Teófilo! I summon thee to battle! Let's see if this 'Charizard' can bring more than a fainting flame to this exhibition!
Aiki: Knock off the platform? Hm...
Let's... start out with a safer option.
-He takes one of the balls and throws it into the Stadium-
-Out pops a certain Abomasnow who gives a ring of her bell as ice starts pouring down from the ceiling-
Aiki: "Start out with... Ingrain!"
Glöckchen: <Unexpected choice.>
-She rings her bell, then sends down roots into the pavement to anchor her and keep her healthy-
<But I can see it.>
Puff -Headtilts at the colored inflection- <Well, they're all fun sometimes!>
Tori: "Well... That does sound interesting. I never really thought about it before"
Puff: <Ooooh, I like the sound of that!>
Tori -Chuckles at Maekrite and Silents comment on money vs science and Puff's reaction-
"Yeah, it's a psychic double-battle gym...."
-In answer to the question about the Mossdeep Gym, she pulls out her Mind Badge-
"And I'd say it went pretty good"
-Sol immediately drops the cuteness of warm stoat and goes look at the badge-
Sol♀: <Ooooh shiny That's so cute! A badge from a psychic Gym~>
"Well then congratulations for getting that badge. You know, the Gym Leader here is a [Water type specialist]...>
-Sol's jewel instantly shines-
Sol♀: <Oooh that one!> -- twirls tail -- <He might or might not be having a Gym battle about right now... but to sign in to events today you might need a [performance]!>
-Silent stares at her for a moment-
Silent: "...Are you spying on other people?"
Sol♀ -frowns: <Of course not. Posts are public information.>
-Silent just stares at her a bit more, then returns attention to Tori and team-
"Anyway. If you want to give it a thought at a later time in your life, about all that researching thing... here you can start asking for information."
-and hands over a [pamphlet] and a PEFE card-
Tori: "I heard a bit about the Sootopolis leader, don't know if I'll challenge him..."
-She blinks, and kinda stares at the 'not spying' Espeon, unsure what posts have to do with anything-
Puff: <Really? I want to see!>
-Puff reaches a paw for Sol's forehead jewel as Tori takes a quick look at the pamphlet and card -
Tori: "I don't know if I could make a career out of researching, I've never been really good at the science-y stuff..."
-Beat-
"Oh, you work at that PEFE place over... Um"
-She pause as the words for describing where it was she visited just don't seem to exist-
"Well... Tagg parked the Stormchaser there before we came to Hoenn anyway, I wondered what they did besides repairs"
-The Samurott at the leader platform lowers his sword and does a Fascinating Eyebrow as he sees Glöckchen start with an Ingrain; he gives a brief, but noticeable, leer back at the room behind him, then turns to the Poliwhirl-
"Juan"?: "Sticking to your roots best be a smart move, let's see well where this goes. Teófilo?" -- leans his head to address the Pokémon -- "Your opponent doth sacrifice their mobility in the hopes of honoring the spirit of this bet. Have you crack through such simplicity! Go with a Rock Smash!"
-The command come, Teófilo is quick to dart across the ice platform, taking some care to not slip, then circles around a bit and tries to leap at Glöckchen's flank for a Rock Smash-
-Glöckchen, being stuck in place, taking a bit of damage from the Rock Smash-
-She doesn't seem to be hurting much, especially with the roots she sent down keeping her energy up, but her guard has been lowered a bit by the Smashing move-
Aiki: "Erm..."
"Strike back with... Razor Leaf!"
-Glöckchen rings her bell again, then releases several sharp leaves that spin around her immediate vicinity in a flurry, likely to strike Teófilo if he hasn't made some distance already-
-Teófilo has managed to land a hit on Glöckchen but the slipperiness of the ice sheet does not allow him to make away soon enough; by the time Glöchcken has unleashed her leaf barrage, the Poliwhirl is securing the footing required to move in the ice sheet in a controlled manner. The Samurott running the battle though seems to have foreseen the predicament-
"Juan"?: "Stand your ground, you can not escape this move!" -- gesticulates furiously with his blade -- "Dance for him and cover your getaway with a Bubblebeam!"
-Teófilo is hit by the first part of the leaf barrage as he tries to step away, screeches, then he collects himself and starts strategically dancing and weaving amidst the flurry, this maneuver helping him regain his footing and evade the later part of the attack just for enough time to get back at Glöckchen by firing a spread Bubblebeam at her while he leaps back to a safer distance-
"Juan"? -with a cocky gesture: "You have chosen a wise coverage, but let's see if you do excel at it." -- to Teófilo -- "Dart at that Abomasnow again and ready for an attack!"
-Puff has reached for Sol's head jewel; the Espeon, far from being smug catlike, is pretty nice and purrs at the gentle, warm touch on her forehead-
Sol♀ the Carbuncle: <You are a cute little warm stoat. I like you.>
-to the comment on PEFE Island, gives a sly look-
"Well we can't really say about that, it's privileged information. Though since you were with Tagg and the others I can tell you, we do lots of science and experiments on improving Pokémon and human life... the right way."
Maekrite♂: <That is, when you and the others are there. Which was when for the last time...?> -- glares.
-Silent just ignores the comment-
-The pamphlet and card Silent has given to Tori certainly don't have information about PEFE Island since its location and features are [REDACTED]; however, it does have some information and pictures on various PEFE-related facilities in Hoenn, such as a storage building in Lilycove and some classes taught by PEFE personnel at Rustboro U.-
-More importantly, she would find on the card a hand-written note with the [videophone] number of any one of the four Founders so that she can potentially, eventually, assuredly, opt in to PEFE tests-
-Sol meanwhile seems to like much the touch, however she worries a bit when she reads something strange and potentially involving Puff in the chatroom-
-(yes, because that chatroom is public information)-
Sol♀ the Carbuncle:: <Oh dear... You might run into trouble! You look like you could need some [help]~> -- stares at her with big O.O eyes.
[spoiler]Thought I posted something last night, but apparently not.
-Glöckchen is not too hirt by the Bubblebeam, but is battered a bit to the side by it-
-Her being used to icy conditions and Ingrain help to keep her from moving too much, though-
Glöckchen: <Little boys who push too much might find something pushing back on them harder.>
-She rings her bell-
Aiki: "Er... right, do that."
-Glöckchen clasps her hands together and gets ready to try and strike back with a Wood Hammer if the Poliwhirl gets close enough-
-Glöckchen is preparing for a Wood Hammer; the Samurott observes the move and roars in an obviously Samurott-liek maner, then composes himself and commands Teófilo to get closer and try to land an attack-
"Juan"?: "Practical but predictable. Teófilo, wake her up from her laurels with a Wake-Up Slap Uppercut!"
-The Poliwhirl slides in as close to Glöckchen's front side as possible to then leap up, hoping to either take the hit or be fast enough to anticipate and land a Totally Not a Shoryūken; unfortunately for the Poliwhirl, Glöckchen has her attack more than ready-
-As Teófilo ascends trying to reach Glöckchen's face, both attacks collide but as Clöckchen has the added advantage of a higher evolutive stage and [gravity], she brings it down on him.-
-The Poliwhirl's body hits the ice sheet hard, the Pokémon grunting in pan. At the same time, some tiny [cracks] start to spread out across the ice sheet from the point of impact. The sound is sharp enough to cause the Samurott to flail in pain-
"Juan"?: <...Oww-Oh dear....> -- seems to realize something is wrong, taps his ear clip.
-Teófilo, badly battered, tries to roll away from the point of impact-
[spoiler]Unsure of how much damage should Glöckchen get besides the recoil effect. Teófilo should, likely, not last more than one strong attack
-From a combination of the Wake-Up Uppercut and the recoil from her Wood Hammer, Glöckchen is likewise at fairly low-health, mostly kept conscious from the nutrients she's getting from her Ingrain roots-
-Due to not being able to move much from the point of impact and being exhausted, without waiting for Gogie to say anything, she tries to send some Razor Leaves in Teófilo's rolling direction-
-Battered, knocked down in an inefficient position and too close to avoid the attack, Teófilo can do not more than to brace himself for the barrage of leaves as the Samurott attempts to direct him to the Abomasnow's blind side-
"Juan"? -barks leaning onwards: <Come on! Weave through it! Leap->
-and realizes he's just spoken Monese, while Teófilo cries as he steps back to try and move through the attack-
"Juan"? -pounds the ground as he points to Glöckchen with his blade: "...Leap through! To the back side and slam her off the ground!"
-Teófilo steps back a bit and musters whatever force he has left to leap forwards into the air, swirling as he reaches to the opposite side of the Abomasnow and collects his energy to attempt a Body Slam as soon as he lands...-
-Alas, the Poliwhirl is too fired and too hurt; he manages to land right behind Glöckchen and attempts to shove her before she can turn around...-
Slip!
-His tired leg gives up from the effort and as soon as he attempts to push against the Abomasnow's body, he slips and lands a short distance away, without control, and left completely at the Abomasnow's mercy as the Samurott observes dumbfounded-
-Glöckchen manages to recover a bit more energy from her roots as she looks behind herself-
Glöckchen: <Like I said.>
-She tries to have more Razor Leaves spin around her in hopes that it'll either knock Teófilo out or into the water-
-The Poliwhirl is hit by the barrage of leaves spinning around and sent half unconscious sliding beyond the edges of the ice sheet, bouncing on the water of the pool a couple of times before finally sinking to the bottom-
-A moment passes with the Poliwhirl not resurfacing, and is not until the Samurott relaxes his posture into a more quadrupedal one and sheathes his sword that the Poliwhirl emerges defeated from the water and swims to the edge of the pool, mumbling something in Monese about not having shoes-
"Juan"?: "This be it then. You get the first round of the match." -- he lowers then his head spear and licks himself for a moment, then once again taps his ear clip -- "You seem to have some skill, but if becoming a [star] if what you seek, in this craft or any other..."
-At this, the Samurott falls with the weight of his four legs on the platform, causing the entire room to shake a litle. Then, from the water right in front of the ice platform, a large ball of water grows, about as large as a Gyarados; the giant ball rolls into the platform, tipping it over a little, and then the bubble starts unmaking itself into water that flows back into the pool to reveal the form of a Starmie spinning around and glowing a faint [red] as the platform returns to its proper balance-
"Juan"? -rubs his moustache: "...you have ways to go, and today they look bleak."
-The Starmie stops spinning yet continues to glow; it levitates barely a finger above the ice sheet as it slowly and adamantly circles around Glöcken-
Starmie: <You can call me Acamar, for I am that which lies at the end of this flow. In this room where your journey ends, I shine.>
-With this, the faint red glow grows into a strong purple one as the Starmie's psychic power increases, pulverizing some bits of ice from the sheet right behind it and sending them around in the form of a fine white mist-
"Juan"? -growls, turns to Aiki: "Very well, let's see if your fire can keep lit a bit of hope for your Abomasnow. Acamar? Proceed with Rapid Spin."
-The Starmie's glow subsides a little, in exchange the Pokémon starts spinning at high speed then lets itself lie horizontally over the ice sheet and launches itself towards Glöckchen at juet enough altitude to aim for the kneecaps-
Ditto: <I do have a name, but it doesn't translate into standard Monese well. And Tagg's only gotten consistent with nicknames a couple years back.>
Puff: -pets gently- <Hehe, I like you too! Even if you talk kinda funny>
Tori: "Hm, I didn't realize there were PEFE facilities in Hoenn too... Hope you haven't run into too many people that tried to do that the werong way"
Puff -Headtilts at the Espeon's cryptic statement- <Help?>
-She stares back at Sol curiously-
-Sol nods and straightens herself up-
Sol♀: <But fear not! My light could be of help! And it serves me as practice, as well!>
-Silent picks up on what Sol wants, opens the book-shaped container besides him and gestures to Sol-
"Do the honors then - bathe your allies in your power!"
-Sol purrs contently and her jewel starts shining brightly; as Silent opens the grimoire, Sol's body floats for a moment. Silent concentrates, and soon Sol starts drawing energy from him and the book in the form of ruby colored strands of light-
Sol♀ the Carbuncle -closes her eyes and focuses: <As a Pokémon born of dreams, I grant you my [light]. The same way I am protected from danger, you can be. May it descend upon you when you face peril~>
-With that, the light dispels from Sol's gem and quickly coalesces around Puff, forming a large, transluscent gem-shaped barrier-
Sol♀ -descends, tiredly: <...It will only last for your next battle... but it should help you in your quest~>
-Tori and puff are unable to react to the cutscene with anything other than amazement (And in Tori's case, a bit of confusion)-
Puff: <Woooow! That was all shiny and cool, thanks!> ^~^
-Puff gives Sol a quick stoat hug-
Tori: "That's... Handy, I've never seen an Espeon do ''that'' before. You guys are just full of surprises, huh?"
-Shahinne listens with interest and turns to her father-
Shahinne♀: <Oooh is that true? Dad can we get mom a name? Pleaaaaase?> -- threefaces and starts hopping around -- <We can [peck] Tagg until he gives her one!>
-Silent overhears and raises a finger, stands there frozen, not sure if to intervene-
-Glöckchen is spun into by the spinning Acamar, which, due to the location it hit, happens to remove the connection to her roots, damaging her a bit as well-
Glöckchen: <...Troublesome, aren't you?>
-She rings her bell again-
Aiki: "Um, try a Wood Hammer to go out with a bang?"
Glöckchen: <I suppose.>
-Glöckchen then moves not especially quickly to try and hit Acamar with cusped fists in a hammer-like fashion-
