A Moonless Night

Other!Basket: -sitting under a streetlight within her enclosure at the Goldenrod Grass Preserve-

Maekrite? Is that you?

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

There's some noise coming from nearby bushes, after a moment a certain Nidorino peeks out from the thicket and quickly runs towards the enclosure. He gets in by digging a small hole by the fence.

Dirty!Maekrite: <I'm here… hang on~>

He quickly shakes himself out, loosening some poisoned quills. After that he goes sit under the streetlight with Basket for nuzzles.

Basket nuzzles back.

Basket: <Alas, the kids are asleep now... but there has been a development you may enjoy indeed~>

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Maekrite: <Awww, I would have liked to play with them~> --moves ahead and looks up -- <Oh? What, what happened? Did I miss something?>

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Basket: Well... I overheard the humans talking... they were saying it was really time that the kids learned to fly.

6

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Maekrite: <Oh… fly! That would be so great- but... I… I can't teach them.> -- drops ears, smiles nervously -- <And I am not really used to heights, I still get scared the few times you can take me for a ride ._.>

Thou hast forgotten the face of thy Lord. Remember, mortal, and fear pet me.

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Basket winks teasingly at the Nidorino.

Basket: But there's the thing! The times will be less few!

See, they are apparently going to encourage me to take them out of the reserve on flights around the city. Who's going to notice if there happens to be a Nidorino coincidentally sightseeing on a roof we stop to rest on?

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

The Nidorino blinks, runs a mental multiplication in his head.

Maekrite: <Less few? …That's more! :3> -- rawrs happily.

Maekrite listens to the news and this is so totally worth it. He'll be able to see the saplings when they fly around town...

Maekrite -realizes something: <Or even better, if you land near the ponds around town for a drink! A-a-a-ai can talk to my boss and ask to be shifted to outskirts patrol, surely...> -hugs Basket's leg.

Basket: <Yes!>

<...of course you risk being photographed more that way. But not caught beyond film!>

<So can you meet us anywhere tomorrow? <3 >

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Maekrite snorts.

Maekrite: <If I'm lucky enough and there's patrol in the route tomorrow, perhaps not even on film. Hide in numbers, boss says.> -- thinks for a moment -- <I'd really have to ask for a shift, so I'm not sure about tomorrow... but if I get it, you'll see me tomorrow by the main turn in Route 35...> -- nuzzles.

Maekrite: <I'll do what I can to be there~♥. Look between the bushes tomorrow, hopefully.> -- leans in gently -- <And tell the saplings I said oh hai.>

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Rt. 35 Tomorrow (from yesterday; ie.: now)

Maekrite rushes downhill across the forest trying to reach the turn of the road before the night falls. While somewhat infuriated for his boss not wanting to give him a patrol closer to the route, he is still hopeful he can see his “saplings” learning how to fly. He tries not to have favourites, though he admits he expects Dulles to be the most agile of the three.

Finally, he reaches the last line of thickets; eager to reach the turn, he only sniffs and listens for his surroundings for a moment. Content with what little he can get, he sneaks in to the road and starts cautiously walking around trying to reach the pond to the other side.

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Apricorn Pond, Route 35

Dulles: <Scurrch, Tower to Mommy, Tower to Mommy, coming in for a landing!>

A young Tropius male wobbles in the air as he flaps down towards his mom

Basket: <Good job, Dulles!>

A young girl Tropius corrects his roleplaying.

Colombia: <You're not the tower, mommy's the tower!>

Dulles: sticks his tongue out <Maybe I'm a flying tower!>

Basket: <Kids, watch your sister!>

Ercilla: <WHAAAA!>

SPLASH!

The last sapling crashes into the water, then fishes herself out.

Soaked!Ercilla: mareepishly <...I guess this makes me a Water-type? Heh, heh?>

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

The Nidorino watches from the grass as one of the saplings falls to the water and makes her way out.

Maekrite -chuckles: <Well that means I haven't missed everything, at least...>

The Nidorino produces some peanuts and fish stripes out of hammerspace and walks out to the pond, calmly walks to the other side while growling a oh hai to the family.

Maekrite: <Dulles you are picking flight well. You are not doing bad girls, you are as cute as ever...>

The Nidorino goes sit by the closest of the saplings and offers a hug.

Maekrite -to Basket, ears down: <Sorry couldn't make it sooner.>

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Basket: <It's OK; I know how the colony is.>

Ercilla: <DADDY!> She runs over to Maekrite, glomping him.

Dulles: <Dad! I flew high today!>

Colombia: <No he didn't! He barely passed over the trees!>

Dulles: <Trees are high!>

Colombia: <Are not!>

Dulles: <Are too!>

Both: <Dad!>

Basket: <Heh. They can be a leaf-full sometimes.>

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

~Some days ago~

Maekrite gets glomped by the saplings. Of course, two of them start arguing.

Maekrite -to Basket: <At least they are full of energy. Mind the back spikes, Ercilla!>

Dulles -leafwings spread: <…If trees are not high how come buildings are high?>

Colombia: <Helloooo? Have you seen how high those buildings are?>

Dulles: <Well trees are still high!>

Colombia -snorts: <No they are not.>

Dulles: <They are!>

Colombia: <Are not!> -- stomps.

Dulles: <Are too!>

Maekrite -frowns at the saplings: <Hey, hey, come on! Happy time here!>

Ercilla: <They can argue all they want, I get the snuggles.>

Basket meanwhile is watching with a smile in her face, prompting Maekrite to solve this somehow.

Maekrite: <All right, all right… you are all flying fine but you should not be flying too high yet, ok?>

The two arguing saplings turn to their father; one of the two takes advantage of the moment to stick out their tongue at the other. Maekrite motions for Ercilla to go with them, pats her.

Maekrite: <You don't need to push, there's no need to fly too high or too far… Yet.> -- lifts a paw -- <Come, let's drink from the pond.>

The two girl saplings yay and quickly hop-glide towards the shore while Maekrite stays behind for a moment taking a quick look at the road.

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Dulles: I've been good for mom! When she's watching at least.

Dulles paws at the ground.

The humans get mad when we fight. They say we'd scare the kids.

He looks around.

...I like to practice though! But Columbia's better at Headbutting...

22

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Maekrite -ears perked up: <I heard that. Tell her I warned you> -- grins ;)

Maekrite nuzzles Dulles, then thinks for a moment about Dulles learning to fight.

Maekrite: <Well, if your mother can get you saplings some free time near the Magnet Train these days I could teach you a couple of things.> -- scratches an ear -- <I'm not sure what could I teach you besides Headbutt though~>

Dulles: We can battle?! Yay~! =D

Basket: calling from the water What's holding you boys up? The water's very refreshing out here!

24

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Maekrite -turns around: <Hang on! We're coming!>

The Nidorino paws the ground a couple of times, then stands on his hind legs supporting himself on Dulles's larger body.

Maekrite: <I still have to get transferred, but in the meantime you be good and help your mother. When you fly around, keep an eye on the shadows on the ground.> -- winks -- <And try collecting [berries] and [nuts]!>

Maekrite lets his child go then follows him towards the pond for a bath.

Re: Other!Goldenrod Metropolitan Area

Dulles: Oh! I will be good! I'll eat everything mom tells me too, and I'll help her keep Columbia and Ercilla behaving! :D

He runs over to the pond to drink his fill. He's a growing tree, after all.

Maekrite is caught aside by his mate.

Basket: You have wonderful children, you know. I hope you get to spend more time with them soon.
