Topic: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

S'up!

Thing is, I'm entering the Interpretation One-Shot contest. The same one DS and Umbra I think will be doing? I got my proposal past one of the judges (Negrek, an old almost-acquaintance of mine, to be exact) and might ask another one during the weekend to confirm.

But!

I also got permission to use two characters from someone else provided I can get explicit (public) permission. And of course I thought "why, here's the chance for some WAAPT!". Basically the deal is, and I quote:

And it's fine to bring someone else's character into your story, as long as they're okay with it.

Now, in order to answer the question of who to cameo, I think the best way is to pick one character from each player and have them duel to the death!

No?

Okay, let's try another way.

In order to know who will cameo perhaps it's better to answer first why would they cameo. I'm looking for two mons who have a well-established recognizable personality that I can express in body language (there will not be Monese here) and for whom their players can authorize me to write for with limited, if any, input (due to IRL time constraints).

These mons will then star in an extended scene as the setup for something to be explained and shown that is usually not shown in the usual canons. So the mons have the opening focus (yay!) but then we move on towards what is actually important here.

I can provide more details about the setting and what will the mons be doing exactly as I work the idea more on my head, and after I get definitive approval, but not just yet.

So this is a thread to discuss two things: first, who would be willing to give me permission to write for one of their mons, which one, and how; second, let's also talk about who do you want to see cameo. A childish Wooper with a thing for bubbles? A (s)kittish Salamence? A Crawdaunt who would rather be left alone to bask than have to do what he's told to? I'll be receiving grants during this week to open and making a final decision near Monday 10 morning localtime (GMT-4).

Any questions?

As an aside. I will be honest here. I so much want Roc for this, but I have to be fair and give everymon an equal opportunity for Evil! to shine.

As much as I would like Sunny to cameo, he already has a cameo in DS' fic.

I could see Felis being a Silent Snarker, though... or Yin yipping and running around in a panic over something trivial. Butterscotch unfortunately wouldn't be able to make it in due to the whole yellow thing.

Re: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

You have permission for whichever of my mons you like, though probably Pankaja, Rosary, Basket, or a lightspot-chasing Blenda would be the more suited.

For others I'd like to see... a shipping Umbreon hiding at a couple's cafe?  A sand-loving Krookodile?

Sanity is precious; use it sparingly.

You can use any of my mons, though I'll admit that Roc, Hydreigon, or Helios would probably be best suited for that sort of thing since I think their personalities would be the easiest to interpret via body language.

@ Silent

For chars that are easily translatable into body language, I'd suggest the following (of course, I could be reading this dramatically differently from you):

- Vlad (Kinda easy to express a hyper hugbug without words)
- Andre (Shyness / Introversion is also fairly doable without words, and would stick out fairly well thanks to people tending to write "RAWR, TOUGH" pseudos in Pokelit)
- Milo (Though playfully smartass Bui/Floatzels have likely been done a few times in fiction.)
- Zoltan (Cecil also works. Helps that they've both had times where their actions their speaking for them. And both have childish streaks.)
- Gene (If your entry can support stealth ninjas. :P)

But really, I'd be flattered if you picked anyone from my roster. You have a really strong knack for coming up with expressive body language to convey personality as-is, and would be confident in anyone you tackled.

Re: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

I give you permission to use any of Crow's and Maggie's Mons as well.

As for which ones would be easier to express with body language... Ghostus would probably be a good choice, but most anyone could work.

Re: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

Okay, I just consulted Dragonfree about m proposal, so as soon as I can get a reply from him I'll be able to better determine what kind of mons I want. Most likely will be in the setting of a battle or a sort of prowess / loyalty ritual.

If for battle, I'm very seriously considering taking Yin in. Would do for an interesting way to write mon's response to trainer commands.

EDIT: g'nite~

Re: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

In terms of characters that can express themselves without words, you're free to use Gino (his catlike mannerisms translate well to that) or Gilgamesh (again, affectionate, childlike Tyranitar does well with body language.)

And they're both quite powerful if you need them for a battle. :P

EDIT: Now that I think about it Sickle would be good for this too.

My girlfriend is a Volcarona, your argument is invalid.

Re: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

You can use Ren's mons as well. Kitsune is probably the easiest to write around as I modeled her after River Song, but sans the slight homicidal tendencies and childhood problems.

We shall defeat legions of Cipher Peons... by performing an elaborate musical number!

Re: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

Thanks for the letting me use them, people.

Unfortunately, life schedule hasn't been kind to me. While I do have some ideas in head, I haven't really had the time to sit down and communicate those ideas down in a manner that is comfortable to me. In fact, at this point I'm pretty much secretly begging for an extension of the deadline, otherwise I just won't be able to make it in. Like, at all.

I do know I'm picking two between Gil, Shaun, Milo and Foudre for the battle, it's less which ones and more what can they do in the battle. So long as it SCREAMS DEVASTATION I'm happy. I have some free spots where I can hint to Yin (because really, it would be sad to miss the chance) and FeSO₄, probably. And for the love of me, I'll get Roc in. Somehow. >_>

Oh well. Here's hoping somehow this world decides to let. me. be. this week.

If I'm too short on time, I think I'll skip this idea for the next time and kinda sorta cheat with a tale I already have half-written from a long time ago and that might. just. make it. within the rules of the contest. >_>

Re: Interpretations, with TWO yes Ⅱ WAAPT cameos!

A bit late to let you guys know, but, I've decided on the battles that will be (barely) shown in fic. The battle takes as one of the two semifinals in a Battle Tower tournament, and pits my ficverse interpretation of two characters: our revered master of timely disappearance Tracer versus a woman with tremendous expertise and a sealed profile who might not might not be Lina. The battle sets for the scenes will go as follows:

* Bottles the Excadrill v/s Kurma the Torterra
* Milo the Floatzel v/s Pandinus the Drapion
* Shaun the Ampharos v/s Gino the Salamence

Warning - due to the battles themselves not being the focus of the story, most awesomeness will be implied or offscreen.

As for what the other semifinal is, that is a surprise :3

EDIT: Bottles is an Excadrill, dunno how I missed that. Thanks Crow.
