Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Ech, maybe so.

I'm still leaning towards negative, but possibly for arbitrary reasons (don't know right now, it's late at night) so don't think too much of that right now.

I will say that it sounds like a hell of a lot of hassle, and that I wouldn't participate.

EDIT: I now am voting no, in favor of what Crewe suggests.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

While I agree that really there's easier ways to observe important parts of J-Team history, I am still drawn to the time travel aspect... But yeah, that's just me liking time travel.

53

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with Crewe.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I personally like this idea. Especially the "get-the-heck-out-of-there before being seen or blown up" bit.

Even though it's been said that the RP's world was a weirder before M's death, this sub-arc gives us a chance to make old Dues Ex Machinas and Ass Pulls less so without changing events outright (semi-retcon?). Plus it allows newer PCs to possibly meet God-level Legendaries that are so hard to fit into current plots.

Notably, this would require players who are still active and were involved in the events help so things don't go too far off course.

to make things simpler though a Sliders approach may work best (Remember that show?); Basically it's, "Group arrives at point A. Group must get to point B in X amount of time or GAME OVER. The time limit is in place to keep the group from getting too involved with past events, but forces them to move along with the past team to get to point B - which would always be near, but not where arc finales took place.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

If we're going to do this at all I'm voting a definite no on things like memory replays or simple visits. I'm in favor of the time travel idea because it's interactive. Otherwise there's no need to go visiting all these places when you can just sit around a hotel lobby or a camp fire and share them. And that'd be the single most boring plot ever. So we either need a way to be engaged, significant, interactive the whole time or I vote on it not happening at all.

56

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Again, I vote outright and utterly no to anything involving interaction/alteration with the past, due to the sheer problem of missing players and retired characters.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

An idea of mine is to change the "time travel" aspect while keeping the "interactive" aspect is to go into someone's shattered memories and put them back in place.

This way, its still interactive and important, but without the chance of "stepping on a stray butterfly".

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Perhaps for the danger portion we could actually go to the areas in question and do the memory replay there, the strength of said memories making it a Your Mind It Makes Real type of situation, but I also like Dune's idea.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

MMmm. Maybe. Would require a volunteer from the people who've been here from the beginning.

In fact, that's another thing. If, say, the people who've been here from the beginning, and are still around, don't want to participate, their character's part in it would be... awkward at best, I guess.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

...Dune. You are brilliant.

61

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Of course, there's basically only two characters that have memories of the early adventures...

62

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

So, yeah, I guess either you, Pent, or you, Tagg, would have to participate.

But this seems a bit more acceptable to me, certainly.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I like Dune's idea, though wonder whose memories those will be.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

And all are ripe for a memory mishap, perhaps caused by Coyote screwing up while trying to help somehow?

65

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Hm... I did have an idea for part of a mindscape jaunt that I could extract and expand on if needed.

66

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Coyote screwing up would not be anything new.

Maybe, in his drive to get "stories", he accidentally slips when sifting through someones memories and shatters them.

Knowing he won't be able to fix it on his own, he goes to the rest of the group to try and fix his mistake.

67

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Of course, afterwards/while the J-team is fixing things, Munn would have to have a  nice little CHAT with Coyote in reality. :P

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I like Dune's idea.

My girlfriend is a Volcarona, your argument is invalid.

69

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Sure, I like Dune's idea. I'm not really sure what "shattering" and "fixing" memories means, though. Putting them in the right order, or what?

That said... I still really want a J-Team World Tour subplot at some point, and I hope a plot like this doesn't just replace it.

70

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I.E. "Shattering", "Fixing"; Pretty much getting them back in order, like fixing a plate that broke on the floor.

Also, a World Tour would still be quite enriching. Dune's never been to any of the Ranger regions, and considering the lack of recent Ranger games, that might not be fixed otherwise.

71

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Plus, you know, there's still a PMD game we have yet to address.

<Whatchu lookin at, PUNK?>

72

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Another PMD probably won't be for a while.

Also, I second Crewe. The J-Team world tour was something I was hoping would happen at some point.

That said, if it's just fixing memories, that should be fine.

73

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Hm... thinking about it more... we could have one "J-Team History" arc by mixing Tagg's Your Mind Makes It Real idea with the World Tour. We can travel the world, and when we reach places that have special significance (like where the arc climax happened), we have a memory replay of the incident where the people that weren't there for it originally feel like they're part if what's going on.

74

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

If we do a world tour arc I must demand there be an arc running parallel to it because I want nothing to do with it but don't want to be left alone for a long time.

75

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Personally, I wouldn't mind another PMD happening after the Illusion/Neo-Galactic saga wraps up. But that's a discussion for another day.

Anyway, let's have the "fixing memories" option be the one we vote on in the end. And I wouldn't want it to replace the World Tour thing either.
