Topic: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Rules for the Thread:

Anything in the Sandbox Thread cannot be put into action for at least a week after the first post in which the plot is discussed. Additionally, nothing can be voted to be killed until after that first week. Hopefully, this will cut down on the plots that are let in without thought, and shut down without thought.

ALSO: EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. ONCE A PLOT HAS BEEN INTRODUCED TO SANDBOX, DO. NOT. REINTRODUCE IT TO CHAT WITHOUT CONSENSUS FROM THE GROUP. IT GIVES UNDUE STRESS, AND BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, THAT DOES NOT ADD TO YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING A PLOT APPROVED.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

All right, so first order of business.

Friend Safaris.

One thing we need to hash out. Will it be like a Normal Safari Zone, or will we figure out a way to reconcile FC's?

Votes for one or the other? Please explain why.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Next order of business: Beri's Genesect plot.

I'll let him talk more about it, but we need to get that hammered down.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Friend Safari: I vote that they be just 18 zones for each type, and nothing that would be related to, or an equivalent of, Friend Codes.

This is because the system doesn't translate well to a story format, and removing them would make it easier to use.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

re Friend Safaris:

I'm (disclaimer) not yet up to date with how do they work in-game or what is the rationale for them, but I'd first point out that there is already distinct models of safaris in games and other canons (Kanto/Hoenn Safaris v/s Johto Safari for example).

I don't see a practical in-universe reason to tie Safari Zone access to Firend Codes considering we don't even have a good concept of FCs in the RP; besides, models with extraneous invite (friend-to-friend) don't work too well for these kinds of ventures that are supposed to be better regulated environments than a public preserve. If anything, instead of FCs it would work with something like... well, the closest thing we have OOU is Nintendo Network IDs, in-universe meaning a model of regulated invite or subscription - meaning one enters the Safari Zones by their own merits primarily, even if firsthand reccommendation is a thing.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

With the Pokemon Village in mind, here's an idea -- in Mewtwo's (I assume) absence, the Genesect has taken up residence in the Unknown Dungeon or whatever it's called?

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I like Straw's idea for FCs.

My girlfriend is a Volcarona, your argument is invalid.

8

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

There was an idea bounced around that perhaps we combine the Pokémon Village and the Lumiose City idea, and that we try to get Genesect to go to the Unknown Dungeon.

9

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

That seems like what the original idea was saying.

10

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Excellent! That's the revision I was leaning towards.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

We're still going to wait a week so everyone can voice their opinions. Toward the end of the week, if this is the last we're hearing about it, we may need to redraw attention to the Sandbox.

12

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Alright... Anyone else have any more input?

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

While I do feel like it's Genesect for the sake of having Genesect, I don't feel that's necessarily a bad thing.

If it can be pulled off well, I'd be up for participating.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Cool!

So the new new new rough plan, to be built upon and refined here, goes something like:

----

TIMELINE:

Before the Kalos Arc (Offscreen):
- a Genesect, fleeing Plasma, comes to Kalos
- somehow, either by uber predator stealth or by burrowing, it makes its way down into the Lumiose Catacombs unseen

During the Kalos Arc:
- mons in and around Lumiose start acting uneasy, sensing the presence of one of the most dangerous predators in existence
- Sycamore, concerned, contacts Emma at the Looker Bureau and the J-Team, requesting assistance in solving the problem (this part optional depending on feedback)
- the J-Team investigates, finding clues throughout the city that points them in the direction of the Catacombs
- they enter the Catacombs, and after some time searching, encounter the Genesect for the first time
- interactions happen, including calming down the Genesect, learning a bit of why it's there, etc.
- someone suggests moving the Genesect in order to settle down the city mons
- after a round of brainstorming, someone suggests the Unknown Dungeon in the Pokemon Village
- negotiations with the Genesect ensue, until it is convinced to move
- the Genesect is moved in secret, in order to both protect the Pokemon Village and the Genesect

----

And that's the base I have to work from.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns to address?

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Personally, I like this revised plan. I think if it can be pulled off well, I'd love to take part (Especially as Psyche's currently holed up right outside the Pokémon Village)

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Thanks a bunch. I would like to know what you guys think about the Sycamore and Emma bit. Is that okay? Do you like it? Is it doable? Do you object to involving them? Would their presence actually lend the plot more credibility? Because I feel that their presence takes the plot just that bit further away from Genesect for Genesect, and actually makes this a bit more respectable.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Bringing in Emma is a nice touch. I'll admit I'm biased, as Emma is one of my favorite characters due to the postgame, but it does make sense. Especially since she has that super suit if things get into a pinch.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Sounds good to me.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Tangent and I, in the least, have a small plan.

As you know, as part of the Shadowification process, Maekrite was forcibly evolved into a Nidoking (I'll be fully understanding if you shriek to the heavens and threaten to smite whatever your local gods are). With the Shadowification part reaching its end via Every this week, hopefully, it'll be time for Maekrite to be purified, which comes with its own set of problems because characterization wise, not-becoming-a-Nidoking is at the core sources of trauma and a background motivator behind Maekrite's character.

So with Tangent we have been talking about a potential solution, character-wise, where shortly after, or as part of, the Purification process, a certain Mew appears (most likely that Mew) and offers to provide help, in the form of devolving Maekrite. However Mew feels that, for a number of reasons to be discussed later, what Maekrite exactly asked for can not be provided, and instead [spoiler]he is regressed all the way back to Nidoran♂ morph. Of course at this point he can not afford to be picky and instead takes what he can get, so this should help play this for fun and lightheartedness more fitting with the Kalos Arc. Silent OTOH might show some displeasure at once again not getting a Royal Evo on his team, but we all know that secretly he's completely and totally okay with it [spoiler]if nothing because he gets Maekrite back in Fun Size, a bit easier to handle and care for.

Of course this is also going to cause some rearrangements in Maekrite0s family life and stuff, as well.

Overall thoughts?

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

My thoughts are "I can't read spoilertext on my mobile device."

But more seriously, I guess that might be acceptable. I don't know. A part of me thinks it would be more interesting to see how he deals with the situation instead, rather than magically make things all okay again.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I don't know much about Maekrite myself, so having him around for a "New Game Plus" would be pretty nice. Of course, I also don't quite get how not becoming a Nidoking is such a big thing for him as a side effect, but oh well.

So yeah. I could get behind that.

22

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Well, it's been a week... where do we go from here?

<Whatchu lookin at, PUNK?>

23

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I think that the majority are mostly ok with it now. I'm going to put it to a vote. Implement, Nix, or Continue Tweaking?

24

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Implement. It seems quite good to me.

(Again ,you can't go by me.)

25

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

With the inclusion of more characters and the general "more-polished feeling", I'd say go with it.
