Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'm voting to implement.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'm still worried what we have will derail other plots going on in Lumiose.

And I'm fine with the Maekrite idea,  but would be more interested seeing how he deals with being fully evolved.

My girlfriend is a Volcarona, your argument is invalid.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

My vote is an okay, so long as there is at least one or two people who you can trust not to be biased in or against you who know everything you plan to do with it and you clear almost everything you plan to do with first. Otherwise this is going to be an ample test to gauge whether or not you can be trusted with something like this ever again.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'm not sure what you mean, Umbra.

EDIT: Verax - certainly. I mean, everything that is planned is right there already. Anything else that happens that isn't there will be reactionary stuff, like, in the form of how the Genesect would interact? I dunno, but what is planned is what has already been seen.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Yeah, agreeing with Verax.

Beri: Like, people will be forced to drop whatever they're doing to go Genesect hunting.

My girlfriend is a Volcarona, your argument is invalid.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Umbra: People can choose to opt in if they want. If they don't want to, they don't have to. Now, if they want to drop what they're doing and do this, then that's their choice.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I nominate myself as an impartial assistant for this plot, as I care to join, and am generally unbiased.

33

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I vote to implement, and I'll assist if I'm considered unbiased.

34

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'd say you are, Crewe.

35

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Implement. I may or may not join in, but I vote implement.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'd vote go ahead and implement, but if possible try to keep events to at most "makes the tabloids but not the news" chaos levels.

Sanity is precious; use it sparingly.

37

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Tangent: Of course. That was the maximum chaos intended, and least net chaos.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'm still not a fan of the idea, but so long as I'm not called upon to participate I guess there's not really any point in objecting.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I side with Dune. I'm willing to do this, if it's done properly.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'm voting for a final check for possible tweakings, just to make sure things work with changes to current plots, etc. From there it should be pretty well set to implement.  My main concerns are 1.- what Tangent says and 2.- since the apex predator in question is taking residence in the Lumiose megahabitat (heh, "mega") at least for a while, I'd like to see made sure that the effects on the wild mon population are Show, Don't Tell. As in, have them actually have some onscreen effect that is not just passed over.

Umbra: Re Maekrite subplot, Crow has similar concerns about Maekrite should stay a Nidoking. However the in-character way for him to "deal with it" would probably be some time of brooding while he undergoes a Mind Is a Plaything of the Body to become the Ruthless Go Anywhere Devastation machine that a well-trained Nidoking should be. Not to mention a growing enmity against Silent. I'm afraid the whole thing, while interesting to play out, would not be very likeable (and, honestly, it's more or less what I already have Inka for in the AU...).

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Note that I will be closing the vote in about an hour and a half, so if anything still needs to be fixed, but it's mostly ok to go, we can port it to Discussion. More people frequent Discussion, this is more for the more dedicated members of the community.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED. Votes after this will be taken on a case by case basis, and will not be tallied in the count at large. Comments for this plot should now be taken to Discussion or PMs to Beri, Crewe, or myself, as the overwhelming majority of people have given at worst a neutral response.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

And now for something completely different!

Okay here's the short two-word version: time travel.

The longer version:

Basically, I had the idea of a subplot of X number of characters getting caught in time travel shenanigans and ending up at each of the various arc climaxes, where they either have to get the heck out of dodge, or alter something that normally wouldn't happen so that it will happen, just so time can go on it's proper course. Obviously, it wouldn't be a major plot, just a subplot that people who want to be involved in can get involved in.

And yes, there is definitely some need for tweaking to this idea.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

The logistics on this seem a bit iffy at best, to be honest.

Lack of previous players, for one, stands out as a big issue to me.

Also, it seems like it would almost take away from the wholeness of said previous arcs, if the altering thing is done.

It'd feel like, at least to me, "Ha, it never would have happened unless WE were there."

I dunno, that's my initial two cents.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I really don't like the idea of people going back and changing things in the past. Going back to spectate is one thing, but I am against actually getting involved with the events.

47

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I'm not really a fan of the idea, there's too much potential for accidental retcons, and there's also the fact that a lot of the major climaxes involve characters that are retired. I've had ideas like this before, none of them turned out well.

Plus, I just don't feel like messing with the past is necessary.

48

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

I don't have that much of an issue with the former, but I do with the latter for reasons that Beri, Crewe, and Straw have already mentioned.

49

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

Then let's nix the "change the past" option. Instead, spectating and possibly getting the hell out of dodge when things start getting risky.

As for the "retired players" bit, that really shouldn't be an issue if we're just spectating. If we play the temporally-correct events out exactly as they happened, then we shouldn't have to worry about how X character-in-the-past would have acted.

Re: Sandbox Thread: Where plots go to hopefully not Die.

This just seems kind of… unnecessary.

We can have a group bonding session where Cobalt replays the memories of everything that happens whenever we want. Actually going back in time seems kind of… overly complicated.

Especially if it requires players actually playing out what happened, when a memory replay can just link to posts.
