Topic: Funeral For A Friend

The Under

Today, the entire population of the under is gathered in the main area to remember a man who, no matter how much he would deny it, they hold as a hero.

That man is Pi D. Warden, and he is dead.

The crowd is dressed in black.

At the edge of the chasm, where the sunlight dripping down through the crevasse hits it, a very large object is covered in cloth.

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-in the crowd, there is a sixteen year old boy, dressed in all black for the first time in a very long while-

-he is doing his best to hold back tears-

Re: Funeral For A Friend

At the front, Zeta, Wayland, and Lou stand, heads bowed.

Zeta steps forward.

Zeta: "We are gathered here today to honor our fallen brother. A man of great passion and greater compassion. A man to whom we owe our homes, our lives, our freedom. A man who fought his own demons, just for the chance to fight ours. A man who was, if not a hero, a champion. A man we all knew and love."

The crowd murmurs in agreement.

Zeta: "Pi. Pi D. Warden."

She steps back.

-Emma is next to Joseph, also wearing black. She looks at Joseph, worried-

Re: Funeral For A Friend

Silent is at the back of the crowd, observing the ceremony at the insistence of his accompanying Eeveelutions. The ones that are a couple of steps ahead, closer to the rest of the people, sat on the ground and looking with very inquisitive eyes.

Ichtacya the Leafeon♀: <...This is so weird...> -- looks around.

Sol the Espeon♀ -eyebrows: <...Huh?>

Ichtacya the Leafeon♀: <Well, I mean,> -- paws the ground -- <it's not something usual
that a J-Teamer dies…>

Sol and Ichtacya listen to Zeta's uulogy.

Sol the Espeon♀ -absentmindedly: <Unless it's Straw.>

Ichtacya is the one to raise an eyebrow this time, stares at Sol for a moment, but decides to say nothing.

Zeta steps back and Ichtacya decides to lie on the ground, ceremoniously. Sol just stays there with a very unhappy expression.

Thou hast forgotten the face of thy Lord. Remember, mortal, and fear pet me.

Re: Funeral For A Friend

Up the back, in the shadows where noone wishes to stand... Someone stands. His head is tilted forwards, coat drawn in even more so than usual. It's Pentigan, in silent mourning.

Re: Funeral For A Friend

Lou steps forward to speak.

Lou: "I knew Pi since childhood. We grew up together, me, Zeta, and him. We were fast friends. I can only say that he will be missed."

He steps back, and the crowd murmurs confusedly, wondering why he won't say more.

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Joseph watches silently-

Re: Funeral For A Friend

Ichtacya the Leafeon♀ -listens to Lou: <...Never met him...> -- looks around.

Sol the Espeon♀: <At most we saw him during a raid...> -- pats.

Ichtacya the Leafeon♀: <I guess... still...>

-Silent notices the shadow in the back, after all he is in the back as well, but he says nothing-

Thou hast forgotten the face of thy Lord. Remember, mortal, and fear pet me.

Re: Funeral For A Friend

Pent nods and remains silent up the back, almost blending into the shadows.

Re: Funeral For A Friend

Wayland steps forward, now.

Wayland: "I'm not much of a man of words. I thought I'd just let my actions speak louder."

He turns, then pulls the cloth off of the object.

It's a giant stone statue of Pi. He's reaching up towards the crevasse in the ceiling, towards the sunlight. His coat flaps behind him like a cape, jutting out over the chasm below. He's smiling, eyes bright with wonderfully captured emotion.

On the plinth is a plaque, bearing the words:

QUAM MALLEM CLAMANT CORRIDEBIT PECCATORES SANCTIS.

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Joseph gasps at the statue-

14

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Emma blinks-

Emma: How much did that cost...?

-She doesn't expect an answer-

15

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-A young man stands at attention. He continues to remain silent, preferring to not draw attention. However, his eyes are still noticeably red.-

Re: Funeral For A Friend

<???: "Damn. You lot are pretty somber. Lighten up, I'm pretty damn sure the kid wouldn't want you lot moping around.">

A Spiritomb pushes it's way to the front of the crowd.

Zeta: "Gr-gramps?"

<Sylvester: "Damn straight, sweetheart. I missed you.">

He hugs his granddaughter, then turns to the crowd.

<Sylvester: "The hell are you all still standing here for? Go! Have a proper wake, dammit! Where's the booze? Where's the celebration of the kid's life, dammit?!">

<Whatchu lookin at, PUNK?>

17

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Joseph remembers the conversation before Pi got the AOS-

So that's who it was.

-he raises his voice so Sylvester can hear-

But I'm not old enough to drink!

18

Re: Funeral For A Friend

<Sylvester: "WHO CARES? BRING OUT THE BOOZE!">

Wayland, smiling to himself, whistles loudly.

The Sears wheel out a whole cart full of kegs.

The crowd roars with approval, quickly acquiring glasses.

19

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Joseph gasps, again-

-inwardly, he is waffling-

20

Re: Funeral For A Friend

Sylvester floats over to Joseph.

<Sylvester: "I understand that you and my boy were in a relationship.">

He glares at Joseph.

<Whatchu lookin at, PUNK?>

21

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Joseph takes a deep breath and stares back at Sylvester, intensely but not hostile-

Yes. Is that a problem?

22

Re: Funeral For A Friend

He continues to glare for a moment, then breaks into a huge grin.

<Sylvester: "Not at all, son.">

He laughs, then embraces Joseph firmly.

23

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Joseph smiles and embraces Sylvester back-

How nice...

24

Re: Funeral For A Friend

<Sylvester: "Liven up, son. I raised the boy, and he'd not be happy with you just moping about.">

<Whatchu lookin at, PUNK?>

Re: Funeral For A Friend

-Joseph looks to Sylvester-

This is not me moping. When I first heard the news, I had a nervous breakdown, and it wasn't a soft nervous breakdown. I'd likely still be in my room sobbing were it not a letter he sent me posthumously.
