I was wondering now, are the legendaries going to have religion about them and essentially be our equivalent to D&D's divinities?
Hmmm... Good question. Do we use straight Legendaries or slot them into the roles of D&D deities?
I think we should use the main "box" Legendaries as gods. Or at least worshiped as gods. So Arceus, Giratina/Palkia/Dialga, Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyruem, Groudon/Rayquaza/Kyogre, and Ho-oh/Lugia.
I don't think we should try to pick and choose according to what fits with other pantheons; so not like "Well, there's Pelor, so we should use Ho-oh."
As for the more minor Legends, maybe have them be akin to dragons, i. e., ancient, extremely powerful, reclusive beings you don't challenge unless you're a serious badass, or seriously stupid.
Double post because I had a thought.
I was thinking about whether or not people can understand Pokemon, and I got an idea.
Originally, only a few people can understand Pokemon, and that would be those that have studied the language intensively, or maybe druids and some mages can, and the rest only have the general idea of what their mons are saying out of familiarity with them.
BUT. After the party takes down the necromancer, the king of Crossways hires them to go looking for a mysterious artifact that is rumored to give people the ability to speak with Pokemon, and bring it back to the mages' school in Crossways so for study and so everyone can use it. If the party goes about it the right way (I have an idea for where it might be, PM me if you'd like to know, Umbra), they can find the artifact and gain the ability fairly quickly, and the difficulty would mostly come from getting it home without losing it to raiders and the like.
Thoughts? Concerns? Complaints?
I like it. It sounds interesting enough. However, how would, say, age apply? Because I might, depending on how it's judged, say that Morti devoted a significant portion of one of his lifetimes to studying Monese. I guess. Maybe. We shall see.
Hm… that's a good question. It depends on just how old they are and how busy their life has been. I would say it's pretty reasonable that Morti might have studied Monese considering his age, and most not-young vampires probably did at some point (if only out of curiosity, and maybe with limits as to dialects and such), and maybe very old elf-types have similar limited understanding, but random old human guy probably has not, unless specifically noted.
Basically, supernaturally old beings, or at least very old members of long-lived races, can probably be assumed to have studied at least one or two "dialects" of Monese (i.e., understand at least one or two types). However, anyone who has specifically devoted a portion of their life to it can understand Monese like any other language.

I figured I should make a proper request to act as GM before we properly begin. Umbra's agreed to help me when I need it, and naturally everyone has a say when it comes to world building questions and such, but I have lots of ideas about plots and NPCs, and I've been looking for a good creative challenge.
As I said I support it. :P

On a somewhat related note, to what extent would Crudor understand Monese? I've mentioned in his history that he's studied languages and has something of an affinity with them, but it's more something he's picked up on the side rather than devoted his life to and he's still only mortal.
Moar world building notes!
King Afton: King Afton is a human who has been ruling Crossways for about ten years now, and the city has prospered under his reign. He took the throne young, but most in the city agree he has grown into the throne. He is popular among the people for his familiar attitude with commoners, and his sympathy with the poor. His partner is a shiny Ursaring he calls Orso.
Lord Alaric: Lord Alaric is a Tengu, and essentially the ruler of Oasis. While Oasis is technically run by a council of the leaders of the various groups that come together in the city, Alaric has the most power, and the council will generally do whatever he wants. He has been in power for as long as most people can remember, alongside his Drifblim and Skarmory partners.
Queen Ciara: Queen Ciara is the elf queen. While she rules over most of the settlements within the Shadow Woods, and Shadowgate also answers to her, her castle is in Night Fork. Very few outsiders have ever seen her, as she is often traveling the woods and when she is home she rarely ventures outside. Nevertheless, she is generally much beloved among the inhabitants of the Shadow Woods. She has a Roserade and Torterra, but both are as reclusive as she is.
King Tocho: Tocho is the orc king of Middle Pass. He is middle-aged for an orc, and cares very little for formality and nobility. He deals with his city hands-on, and works with a local blacksmith when he's not overly busy with running the city. He approaches problems among the city as well as outside threats head-on, and has no patience for deceit and politician-ing. As such, he is generally a very popular ruler among his peopple, though the nobility of other cities tend to look down on him. He has a Hitmonlee for a partner, and twin son and daughter, named Tuari and Tazanna.
Vigo: Vigo is a gigantic black dragonborn who has been the leader of Highpeak for about three years. He led a coup against the old leader, a corrupt white dragonborn named Skah, and took over with the blessing of a few of the other cities, such as Crossways and, surprisingly, Night Fork. Highpeak is still in something of a transition period, but Vigo is generally considered a better leader than Skah. Nevertheless, there is opposition to his rule among the city, and there are rumors that Oasis is backing a resistance movement against him. He is partnered with a (shiny, not that it's particularly noticeable) Garchomp.
King Harman: Harman is the Warforged king of Blackhall. He took power about ten years ago after the previous king purportedly named him his heir on his deathbed, to some controversy over whether a Warforged would make a good king, as well as suspicions as to the circumstances of his assumption of the throne. However, Blackhall has thrived since then, and while there are still opponents to his rule, many citizens of Blackhall have embraced their Warforged king. Harman has a Steelix partner.
King Jaegar: Jaegar is the dwarven king of Silver Falls. He has been in power for many years, and under his rule little changes in his city. He keeps his city's affairs to itself, and does his best not to involve himself with other cities outside of trade. He has an Armaldo, Kabutops, and Aggron.
Queen Cascata: Cascata is the mermaid queen. She lives in the capital of Dawnwatch under the water, and handles affairs mostly related to her own domain underwater. She is rarely seen above water, and even more rarely seen above water without her husband. She married her husband some time ago when trouble between the above and below water parts of the city came into conflict, but the two are not particularly close and generally rule separately, though they appear together on formal occasions. She has a Kingdra, Blastoise, and Golduck.
King Torrin: Torrin is the Wood Elf husband of Queen Cascata. He rules the portion of Dawnwatch that is above the water. He comes from a branch of elven nobility living among the Sun Woods, and was chosen to marry Cascata as a means of uniting both the surface and depths of Dawnwatch, as well as Dawnwatch and Night Fork. He rules from afar, and it is generally very difficult to get in to see King Torrin. Rumors have it that he answers directly to Queen Ciara and Dawnwatch is really under her control, but his officials naturally deny it. Dawnwatch has been reasonably prosperous under his rule, so there are few opposition groups, though there is a a reasonably sized group that wants the surface half of Dawnwatch to split from the mermaids. Torrin has a Scyther and Yanmega as partners.
Magister Rhoswen: Rhoswen is a Drow woman, appointed by Queen Ciara to rule over the day-to-day business of Shadowgate once the city grew large enough to warrant one. She has little real power, but nevertheless enjoys meeting with the nobility of other cities to act like she does. She occasionally plays favorites among the citizens of her city, but can usually be counted on to be fair. She is very supportive of the herbalist school in the city. She has a Shiftry and Cacturne as partners.
Lord Kynan: Kynan is the Tiefling leader of Sunguard. Sunguard is led by the mining guild, who mine the Sun Stones, and Kynan is the head of the guild. He is a greedy man and rather obsessed with productivity and trade. While this has led to a rather inept judicial system and general lawlessness in the city, it has led to prosperity for the higher-ups in the mining guild and other wealthy members of the city. However, the miners themselves are often rather poor. Occasionally, Kynan will throw the poor a bone, so to speak, in an effort to pacify them, but makes no real attempt at change and is more concerned with keeping his own wealth and power. He has a Houndoom and Charizard.
Master Varick: Varick is the head of the magic academy in Crossways. He is an elf-halfling hybrid, and very irritable about his rather diminutive size. However, he is an extremely powerful mage, and close to King Afton. He is held in awe around the continent, though he rarely leaves the academy except in emergencies. He has an Exeggutor, Alakazam, and Zoroark as his partners.
Audrics Parents are respected in their individual fields.
Karius Mant: A human male and Audric's father. Now a retired mercenary and bounty hunter, Karius spends his days teaching the youth of Crossways swordsmanship. has a scar on right side of his face and wear an eyepatch. He has aged remarkably well.
Valkuria Cranedie Mant: A female elf and Audric's mother. An accomplished mage, she teaches at the Magic academy. Specializing in the Arcane classes of magic. (Think Professor Mcgonagal -strict, but fair, with kind, motherly side as well)
Now to add my own NPCs in there:
Cecilie and Sigmund Larsen: A young noble couple who's friends with King Afton and Sigurd's adoptive parents. Cecilie is a Cleric and Sigmund is a Paladin. They're both very popular due to their friendship with the king and for being kind and helping the city in many ways by putting their fortune into good use, they're also well-known as adventurers that often leave to explore the world for anything that might be of interest for them, though they stopped their adventuring once they found Sigurd, instead they decided to spend some of that time in the church, but now they have plans of going back to adventuring now that Sigurd himself has left to take care of himself.
Cecilia is known for her beauty, having beautiful long blonde hair and blue eyes as well as a slender but strong body. She frequently wears a silver robe and blue shoes and carries a silver staff with a blue orb on it's top. She's a very serene and kind woman who has idealistic views on the world and is known for healing any injured person she might find on the streets and being very forgiving. She has as her partners a female Togekiss named Lise and a shiny Blissey named Elin, both of which share her qualities.
Sigmund has a rather messy short black hair, black eyes, has a strong build and wears a silver and blue armor very similar to the one worn by his son, including similar weapons. He's known for being a master swordman and for having an overall charismatic personality, being respectful, though playful and always having everyone's best interests in mind when making decisions, as well as being a brave warrior that never loses his cool in battle and never turns down challengers. He has as his Pokémon partners a male Escavalier named Magnus and a male Stoutland named Valter

Sunguard:
Sunguard and Oasis are very closely linked as allies. They trade regularly, and it is an open secret that Kynan and Alaric have private meetings often.
While Sunguard and Crossways cities also trade regularly, their relationship is far more strained. Afton is prone to furious outbursts at the state of Kynan's city, and it is only thanks to the continued pressure of his advisers that he doesn't sever ties with them.
Oasis:
Oasis and Crossways have long been enemies, and when Afton took the throne, Alaric took particular offense to such a young king and it is well known that he despises the king of Crossways. He waged a war against his father and lost, and there are rumors that he is looking to try again. For his part, Afton does his best to keep the peace, but his dislike of Alaric is also fairly well-known.
While Night Fork is usually very isolationist, there is occasionally a minor conflict with Oasis over trade routes along Traveler's River. While Alaric would very much like to open a route between Oasis and Shadowgate, and hopefully both steal some business from Crossways and make it much easier to access the herbs and medicines made in Shadowgate, Ciara always adamantly refuses to allow a road to be made through the Shadow Woods.
Alaric is always trying to strike up an alliance with Middle Pass, but is always rebuffed.
There are rumors that Oasis is backing a group that opposes Vigo's leadership in Highpeak.
Night Fork:
Night Fork has very little to do with the outside world. It has some trade with Oasis and Shadowgate, but otherwise does not interfere with the politics of the rest of the continent, with few exceptions.
There are rumors that King Torrin of Dawnwatch answers to Queen Ciara, and as such Dawnwatch is really under the control of Night Fork.
Shadowgate is technically under the command of Ciara as well.
Middle Pass:
Tocho keeps his city staunchly neutral. Middle Pass does not take sides. However, it is closely linked with Highpeak, as the most traveled route up to the mountain city. Nevertheless, Tocho refuses to take sides in the unrest over Highpeak's leadership, and deals with whoever it is that is currently in charge.
Highpeak:
At the moment, Highpeak is closely allied with Crossways. Afton supported Vigo's takeover, and continues to support his leadership. While Night Fork also supported the coup, it quickly cut off relations with Highpeak again.
Highpeak and Middle Pass work together closely as the safest route into the mountains, and Vigo has great respect for Tocho. Most would agree that Vigo would gladly ally himself with Tocho, but the orc refuses all allegiances.
Highpeak trades with Blackhall regularly, and Vigo supports Harman's rule.
Blackhall:
Blackhall trades most regularly with Highpeak, sending out their finished products. It also gets a lot of raw materials from Silver Falls, and Harman and his advisers often travel to Silver Falls to talk with Jaegar.
Afton also supports Harman's rule, though some believe it is merely to keep trade going with Blackhall and keep it away from Oasis. If that is true, it seems to work; a good portion more of the materials mined and products made in Blackhall goes to Crossways than Oasis. Whether this is due to Afton's support or simply geography is unclear.
Surprisingly enough, or perhaps not, Alaric also supports Harman's rule.
Dawnwatch:
Dawnwatch also does its best to remain neutral. It does trade with Silver Falls and Crossways, but mostly out of necessity, and Cascata and Torrin are careful not to make enemies with the other cities. Dawnwatch often serves as a meeting place for rulers when they need somewhere neutral to work out a treaty or other such agreements.
There is some internal unrest in Dawnwatch. There are groups of both mermaids and surface dwellers that want the city to split between the aboveground and underwater portions, and become two cities. Both groups have been put down somewhat by the marriage of Torrin and Cascata, but neither has gone away completely.
There are also rumors that King Torrin answers to Queen Ciara, and the aboveground portion of Dawnwatch, at least, is run according to the will of the elf queen.
Silver Falls:
Jaegar does his very best to keep Silver Falls out of the affairs of other cities. He trades mainly with Blackhall, sending raw materials and getting finished products back, and Dawnwatch and Crossways, where he sends silver products and other raw materials, and gets supplies back.
Jaegar does not claim to support or oppose Harman's rule, but does host the Warforged king and his advisers at Silver Falls often to work out trade agreements.
Crossways:
Afton does his best to ally himself with every city that will let him. While most of the nearest cities are strictly neutral, Crossways is closely allied with Vigo in Highpeak, and Afton officially supports Harman's rule in Blackhall. He often goes on trips to Shadowgate and Dawnwatch, but neither officially allies with him. Like many other cities, he has attempted to ally himself with Middle Pass and was rejected.
Afton inherited his anonymity towards Oasis, and the two cities are old enemies. He also sets his city at odds with Sunguard, as he is outraged at the way Kynan runs the city, and has more than once had to be talked down from a war by his advisers.
Crossways trades regularly with most major cities, with the exceptions of Sunguard, Oasis, and Night Fork. As such, Afton (or more likely his advisers) strive to keep the peace in the south.
Shadowgate:
Officially, Shadowgate is under the rule of Night Fork, and as such is neutral. However, under Rhoswen, it often hosts whatever rulers will travel out there. It also trades with Crossways, exporting herbs and medicines, as well as lumber.
Hmmmm... only NPC I can think of is not so important/in the limelight that others might know them.
I think we've handled most of the questions and suchlike brought up, so I'm ready to go whenever you lot are. Just let me know when y'all think you're ready, and we can start.

Hmmm, I was wondering now if maybe we should do a skill list for our character with their powers, after all even though some may be specialized in some kind of magic doesn't exactly explain what they can do with it, and this way we can avoid having any game breaking skills pop up during the RP itself.
Also, are we going to go with D&D magic/skills or are we going to create our own for the most part?
I hope not the D&D system. I hate the whole "preparing" spells thing. Makes it painful to be a wizard and/or magic type user.
I'm ready to go whenever you guys are. And as far as skill lists go, it might be a good idea to establish what exactly the magic users in the group are capable of and how often they can do it, though I don't have to worry about that with Crudor as he's a martial fighter whose only power is "chop things with axe".
Also I feel obliged to point out that spell preparing isn't a mechanic in D&D 4e. Spells fall into three different categories: At-Will, Encounter, and Daily. I'll leave it up to you to figure out how often you can use spells from each category.
EDIT: In case it wasn't immediately obvious, I'm not saying that we have to use one of the two D&D magic systems. How the magic mechanics work is up to Crewe.
We also have not decided who's going to controll the Antagonist
Merisk can:
The basic "Animate Dead" spell creates skeletons and zombies. The next spell on that list is "Create Undead", which outputs ghouls, ghasts (advanced ghouls), mummies, and mohrgs (worms that coil in skeletons and control them by contorting around the bones, they look like animated intestines with clawed mandibles.) Then you get Create Greater Undead, which gives you shadows, wraiths, spectres (all varied ghosts), and devourers (sort of high-level ghouls).
He can also instead of just raising a bunch of dead, can summon a single stronger undead.
The antagonist is mine to sic on you lot.
I'll let you lot decide how often you can use each spell in a fight, but if you would kindly PM me the list once you've decided, I'll look it over and make sure you aren't completely broken.
Pretty much most of what I got is innate stuff - supernatural speed and strength, enhanced senses, yaddda yadda. Also a bit of minorish illusioning, due to Drow origins. MMMMMMM.
